I was wondering if anybody could tell me how many different four barrel intakes there are for the small block, and how to identify which one I need. I have a 350 with a 2-bbl on it, and though I like the economy, I want more power. I know you can buy adapters, but that can't be good. If anyone knows if there is more than one type of four barrel, and how to tell which I need I would be realy thankfull. donepate@yahoo.com
adaptors suck. I got a stock 4 brl intake for $30, +$30 shipping... they weigh a ton... the problem with stock intakes is that they are made for Q-jet carbs. If you want to use a holley, or something else, you need an adaptor... this adaptor would not suck as bad as a 2 brl to 4 brl one, but still not to great. I was running a holley with an adaptor for a while, and it seemed to work fine. The other 2 options seem to be TA performance and Poston. Taperformance.com has info on theirs. Poston doesn't have much of anything online. From what I hear the TA one is better. -nick
what is the weight diff between the stock boat anchor 4bbl manifold and the aftermarket ones? the stock one has to be close to 75-80 lbs... The manifolds are identified by year by their casting numbers, you can go to http://www.nhra.com/tech_specs/engine/blueprints/BUI-68.rtf and match the casting number to a model year. substitute the year in question for "68" in the URL above
go to www.nhra.com/tech-specs/engine/index.html#buick and browse the various years for intakes and casting numbers. this is how to identify what year intake you are dealing with.
I'm currious.. How accurate are those RTF files from the NHRA? The '70 states 9:1 comp, the '71 states 10.5:1 comp.. Ummm, whose wrong here? Just an observation....
3 350 intakes Stock cast iron (some variances in this but they perform about the same, and weigh a TON) Poston S-Divider, very similar to the 455 S-Divider, supposed to give single plane performance on a dual plane platform. I believe Jim Burek had a hand in desinging this one. Weighs like 16lbs or something like that... TA Stage1 350, I think this was one of TA's first aftermarket products, something about Mike being upset that there were no aftermarket intakes for his 350... This one is rated well and costs the same as the Poston I think, it is a true dual plane and bolts in like stock and everything fits like stock (I think the same is true for S-divider). Either aluminum intake is gonna give a performance boost However I have not seen or heard of any real dyno tests to see which manifold performs best, I would bet out of the box they are pretty equal, especially on a stock engine. Its when you start porting heads, using headers, high compression, big big cams that each intake goes its separate ways.. ANd then you can also port the intakes too... $.02 P.S. I should have a stock '70 350 4 intake available soon... Dan
I believe Kenny Bell still has an intake for the 350, nobody seems to have anything good to say about them anymore, they are ok in my book, But there is one more intake if you were wondering. Robert
