How much oil with the TA pan?

I'm using the TA pan and pick-up tube, but I have not changed the dip stick tube. I've noticed it takes ~9 qts. (with filter change)to get the level up to the full mark. Would it be to my advantage to reduce that to 7 or 8 qts.? Could I save some HP and still be safe?

Hi Craig, i run a 8qt. Poston pan, i run 6-7 qts. in it. I was told by running a qt. or 2 lower, will help keep the parasitic hp loss from the crank spinning in oil. Jim Weise makes a nice baffle for the oil pan too. Randy

I run an 8 quart pan too. That's also what I do, run a quart low or so to keep oil from "wrapping" around crank. Just make sure that your pickup is close to the bottom, but not too close as to impede flow of oil.

I just changed the oil again today (1000mi), and filled to the "add" line. The pan also has a wall in the sump (rear) with a door to keep the oil there during braking.
