How should I prep this for paint? I would imagine its not going to stick to fresh chrome very well.

I removed the paint with paint stripper, scrubbed it with soap and water, then dried thoroughly. Then I gave it a very thin coat of self-etching primer, than a few light coats of flattened black urethane. Go light with the paint so you don't fill in the textured surface.

Hard to say how much the console chrome costs, I sent them every chrome and stainless piece on the car (less bumpers) to them $2,600.

Wow! plating costs are crazy these days.I asked cause theres such a big variance in what shops ask for chrome plating.I farmed my jobs out to 5 different chrome joints in US and Canada to see quality and time frame.Who did you use?

Speed & Sport in Texas. They claim to have a 15 day turn around (more like 15 weeks). Dont have my list handy but I sent them every piece of chrome and stainlesss on a 69. Very happy with the results.
    Did I pay too much?

    Matt,

Your going to have a Sweeeet Ride! :TU: I'm looking forward to the pictures when it all come together.

Did your console need any work? Mine is in ruff shape. I can only dream of it looking that good.

How did they price the job, did you have to send them the stuff first to get a quote?

Rich, thanks for the compliment. Hard to believe last year I was ready to throw in the towel. They had to see everything first but he said if I didn't like his price he would send it back free shipping. My console was in very good condition as was most of the other chrome stainless. Just minor dings and scratches. The trunk trim looked like it had been on the bottom of the ocean so he cut the BUICK off a skylark piece I had and you can hardly tell. I wouldn't consider it a "show quality" job. If you look real close (inches) you can see some slight imperfections but I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

Do you need one or have one you have to find? If you need one, here's a shift pattern emblem for you.
