At some points I think my dad thinks I’m nuts to work on these cars like we do. Other than an old vw bug he tinkered on after he retired he never really had a chance or desire to tear something apart and put it back together. So when I can I share my cars with him. Never forget taking him for a ride in my Skylark when I first brought it home.

Once in awhile I’ll get a “I’m proud of you and what you’ve accomplished”. Others times he just looks at me like I’m nuts. Lol

Duane, I like the idea of building a car that never was and make it look like it was built at the factory. There is usually much more work involved than anyone can imagine, so this was interesting to read !

Todd and I were talking about how I built this "truck", so I am bringing it up to the top for him.

So.....after all the work, did you cringe to drive it from PA to KY on a open trailer? Did it get any damage on the trip?

No damage but it did get a little dirty, and that was the only trailer I had at the time.

I built this one to enjoy. I don’t drive it much but plan to fix that problem when I retire.

The car has been done since 1999 so it needs to be gone thru again, although the body work has held up very well.

When I get down it only takes a 15-20 minute drive to make me smile again. The same can be said for the 69 car, but it is a lot faster so it makes me smile in way under 10 minutes.

    Duane,

Is there a thread or photos of your 71?

I have very few photos of that car, and I don’t have enough photos to do a thread.

Something I always wanted to do was make up a postcard with the car. I figured on wrapping a bunch of packages, put them in the bed, dress up as Santa and send them out as Christmas cards.
I thought that would have been pretty cool.

Thanks for bringing this thread back to the current times. That is such a cool car and I really enjoyed reading about the build. I would also hope to get to see it in person, some day!
