I need to put the braking brake release handle (the one you pull to release the brake) on the stem. It appears to push on but looks very tight. Any tricks or methods you use?
Pull and twist,..it will either break or come off,..then put a little glue of some sort in the hole and push it back on If your replacing it and it doesn't come off with pulling cut it off with some dikes
Put a pair if small vise grips on the rod so it doesnt twist, then turn the knob (T handle) until it breaks. The old plastic is probably pretty brittle and should crack. If you have a small torch and are careful, you can heat the rod to soften the plastic to remove. IIRC, its on a barb and pressed on pretty tight. If your adventurous, you can pop the retaining clip on the release end and remove the rod. Like Ethan said, you can also take a HD pair of dykes and shatter it. If the new on goes on loose, a dab of epoxy in the hole should hold it. ws
Thanks - The new one was too tight. I used the torch trick and heated up the rod, slid it on and let it cool. I put vise grips on the rod as heat sinks so the paint would not burn off or let the heat go into the mechanism. I used wet paper towels to cool the handle after it was on.
