Howdy, I'm new.

Howdy. I just purchased an old '79 LeSabre from a friend of mine about a few weeks back. Um... not sure what to say here. Although the car runs fine and is in working condition, I have some questions on what to do with some of the broken parts. If anyone is willing to help, the driver sides most left blower doesn't work for the A/C or heater. Also the glove box lock set (?) has fallen apart and I've come to the conclusion that it's a lost cause. If anyone could help me fix these two little kinks, I would greatly appreciate it. BTW, great forum. :) Peace.

Edit: BTW, I'm very new with cars. So I'm not sure on all the specifications. The car is white (few tiny rust spots and nicks) and is 4-door. :)

Glad you bought a Buick....welcome to the board!:beer

Have you considered looking in a junkyard for the glove box lock set? I bet there are a few out there that will work. The Electra is probalby very close to the same setup as your LeSabre.

You say the far left vent does not work? Try looking up under the dash to see if the vent hose is still connected on both ends.

BTW, what's you're name? Where you from?:)

Name is Brad. From St. Louis, MO. About to goto college at UMR (Rolla) in a month. Just trying to get my car in shape to have a smooth ride to and fro. Sorry, i'm kinda the newbie, but how can i check if the hose is connected??

Update/Edit: Just fixed the AC ... I think. The vent wasn't connected to something (most likely the AC unit). But problem is I stayed up all night, tried fixing my car, and accidently left the lights on. So my battery is dead. So, I must wait for my mom to get home to jump me, hopefully.

Over near Gravois, Morgon Ford, and Chippiwa(sp?). In South County. BTW, about the lock for teh glove box. There is a lock mechanism that goes into the glove box, a part for the key that is inserted into the lock thingy, then a threaded nut that screws on to make it all fit together. I put the key in, turn it to lock, and it locks, but then it won't open back up. Any ideas on why?? Also, how far is St. Peters from like Ronnies 20 Cinema??

Oh I just remebered. I was wondering if there was any place i could clean my engine out. Since you live near StL. The engine is really dirty/messy. Just wondering if there was some kind of solution that would help when working on it. Thanks.

South county is at least 30 minutes from me. I live near Mid Rivers Mall. 10 miles west of 70 and 270 interchange.

Go to Auto Zone and buy a bunch on engine degreaser. Follow the directions and you will be just fine with cleaning the engine that way. There are some detailing companies that do this and use a pressure washer to clean everything up after they let it soak. This is basically what you would do, except you'll use your own hose.

Thanks so much. I'll do that soon. BTW, I've been having some problems with starting the car. I'm not sure if the battery is old or new, but whenever I'm idle at a light or something, the ENGINE light turns on and kinda goes to the beat of the song that i'm playing. Sometimes it's just constant. NOt sure what it might be. Thanks for the engine degreaser idea. Peace.

Have your alternator tested! Either that or its the voltage regulator.:TU:

K, that might explain it. Cause the GEN light comes on sometimes as well. Thanks.

Edit: I was wondering if you knew of any junkyards taht i could go and find taht piece to the glove box. Also, how do i get the alternator tested?? At like Dobbs?? Cause I've already given them an arm and a leg on services.

If you don't want the mess in your driveway, it is worth the 50 cents to pay and use the pressure washer at one of those DIY car washes. Those make more pressure than what you probably have at home anyway.

Another tip is to work kind of quickly. Letting the cleaner soak in is good, but letting it dry on things makes it very difficult to get off. It will dry out fast on a hot engine.

    Congrats on the "new" wheels.

Speedway Salvage on the Eastside. Next to Gateway International Raceway. LOTS of GM cars there.

Find an Auto Zone and they will test your alternator and voltage regulator. Replace the regulator regardless of function. Those things are touchy.:TU:

    Wow! 50 cents?!

Every one I've ever been to is a minimum of $1.25 a pop!!

At 50 cents a pop I wouldn't even bother unrolling my hose!
