tried to post some updated pictures but for some reason it does not let me sign in sometimes. My account has been acting up. I have pictures for much of the assemble and i am hopeing to have the block base coated and cleared by this up comming week. once it is painted i will toss it back in the car. Paul
Here are a few pictures of my 401 that i am rebuilding. It has Ross pistons, ARP main and Head studs and ARP rod bolts. compression was dropped to 9.1 because of the turbo setup. The heads were already redone with new guides, valves, seats, springs and i showed the port work. all i did was just clean up the casting on the intake, exhaust ports and in chamber and throat. progress has been slow but just got married and was busy with planning the wedding, honeymoon. but now i am back and have a few weeks or free time so i am going to try to get everything back together as soon as possiable. Looking good Paul. looks like you cleaned up the heads a little. Did you clean up the intake? Lots can be done there to breath better , but I guess with the turbo it might not matter much. Tubos are Cant wait to hear how it runs
I am excited to get it together and finished!! it is all the small things that noone see's that takes forever. I worked on the headers yesterday for about three hours just welding and grinding tring to clean them out and smooth them up. they are warped alittle from the initial building of them so i have to deciced if i am going to weld the flanges more than hit them with the milling machine i use on cylinder heads or weld a new nailhead flange to it and than machine it.. The turbo will make up with the lack of flow through the heads. i didnt go crazy with the cam so i am really building it to be a mean driver. i plan on installing meth injection later which helps when i decided to add more than 10psi boost. motor will now handle 15psi plus of boost. Ross said rings and pistons will handle it no problem. Factory crank and rods where reused and crank was cut but they are forged so i am not worried about thier strength. I am tring to finish paint and before the motor goes back in i will be jamming the car. I am going to install the motor and transmission with the nose off. we where debating whether to paint the firewall the same color as the car and motor black, or paint the motor the dark metalic slate and the firewall blk with the inside of the fenderwells. any suggestions?? Paul
here a few pictures of the oil pan right after i welded in the bung for the turbo oil drain return line. will be using -12an steel braided line with blk fittings.
here are some pictures of my turbo headers, they are not finished welding but had to cut the flanges off and redo them due to some issues, havent finished welding but will when engine is back in the car. will be basecoating and clear coating the engine tonight.. Paul
i bought those header flanges from ebay and highly rec them to anyone looking to make thier own headers. I found them to be high quality cnc'd. best $45 plus shipping i ever spent. did have to massage the header flang ports to get them to fit right but plenty of material.
just put the motor and trans back in the car, took the nose off to make it a little easier while working out any bugs.
she's ALIVE!!! started it up the other day and just working out some bugs. I am hard plumbing all the vacuum lines, boost gauge line, vacuum modulator for trans and oil pressure gauge lines. Also had to hard line the Blow off valve and wastegate. It will take a little longer to due but will look super clean when done. This is a picture of two of my students who have been working on it with me. Once they get all thier work done for the day i will work on the hotrod with them.
Not on this intake.I bought a spare intake to do the mod to and wanted to run it on the dyno with both intakes. I bet it would really help with the boosted application. I do have an open dyno session comming up that I could run it on if I could get it together before we he'd out for SEMA. I am tring to but still a big list. I am hoping to have a video of it boiling the tires off by the end of the week. I still have to replum brake lines after going to c5 corvette master to match the brake setup. The local UTI let's us use thier DYno but when I bring it thier I have to have all the bugs worked out.
