The vehicle is a 71 Skylark. 455 engine, new B&M 350 tranny, 3:42 rear. Not sure the cam part number but it has been discontinued by crower. I remember the manufacturer claiming it was for making more mid range power than anything else. Idle is dam near stock and does not lope hard at all. I need help deciding on a converter stall speed. The car will be used for mostly cruising to the local burger stand and not for racing. I'm not a fan of high stall converters.. had one on my Falcon and did not like the way it took off from red lights. I just want something that will work with a 455 engine/350 tranny/3:42 rear end. My knowledge of torque converters and which one I need to buy so my car will drive how I like it to is limited. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
If it's a mild cam a low stall range 1800-2200 should be fine. 1800 would be close to a stock converter. The 2200 would give it a little more bite out of the whole but shouldn't jerk you around to much.
The product description says that this one will provide a stall speed of 1900-2100 for vehicles producing 250 foot pounds at 2500rpm. I'm thinking the 455 is in the 300-325ish range by 2500rpm. Is this OK to use? http://www.amazon.com/20416-Holesho...&qid=1410830412&sr=8-2&keywords=holeshot+2000
