I rented a 2022 challenger for my epic vacation

It's worth it to go back. We want to kayak salt river next time. You will absolutely love the Canyon lake boat tour. At 30 bucks per person it's a steal. And on the drive down to Canyon lake the scenery in the mountains is breathtaking. So much great stuff to do in the phoenix area. In 2021 we did the hot air balloon ride and that was fabulous

I usually had traction control off but I didn't get too crazy in it. My wife and I had plans to get on a back road and really see what it could do but it never happened....mainly because the roads leading to the Grand Canyon were snowy and that would have been the best place. I did have fun in stoplight to stoplight traffic spinning just a little off the line and going through the first 3 gears to about 65 mph. The mountain roads were fun too. Lots of cops though.

I know what you mean. I took this pic in the summer of 2021. We did 200 mile round trip in the Buick with windows down. I'm soaked in sweat in this pic. It was miserable to the point all we could do was laugh and make the bes t of it. Ended up being one of my favorite trips in the Buick but I have avoided long summer drives ever since LOL.

Awesome pic! That is how you make memories. I had already gone through that and added A/C to the Skylark. Driving through Winnemucca, NV when it was 112* outside I was able to keep it around 70* in the car, but I was still sweating my ass off! It would have been a lot more fun had I been sharing the "pain" like you were. haha.

I agree too. This isn't the first time that a manufacturer has hung on to a great design for a very long period of time. Ford built essentially the same full-size Galaxie that morphed into the Crown Victoria, from 1965 to 2011. There aren't a lot of parts that will interchange between the earliest and the latest units, but the changes were evolutionary, not a complete redesign. The same is true of the Model T; on the MTFCA forum a while back there was a discussion about what parts are identical between 1909 and 1927 (The first and last years of T production). The speculation was that perhaps the Schrader valve for the inner tubes were the same, but we weren't even certain of that. There are many parts that will fit many if not all years, but virtually none are identical.

My friend was breaking my chops about this very thing. How the challenger is based on 1997 Mercedes E class architecture. It's designed after a 50 year old car too. What's your point?

People like to change the designs of things just because ‘it’s old’, but some things were designed right to start with. Steering wheels, for example: We had attempts to replace them with yokes, rudders, even wrist controls in the ‘50s, and now Tesla has a damned yoke! There’s no need! Climate controls, too…what’s so wrong with knobs and sliders? And shifters? What’s so wrong with a big lever, mounted on the column if it’s a big comfy car or truck?

It's a great experience! Years ago, my dad, brother, uncles, and cousins hiked down the South Kaibab Trail, spent the night at Phantom Ranch and hiked back up on Bright Angel Trail in the morning. Not surprisingly, the hike down is way easier than the hike out lol

We want to do the hike. Hopefully in the next couple of years.

Let them keep busting your chops. The Challengers and Chargers have been built for so long by now Stellantis that they are great cars, Chassis was taken from the old Mercedes 300E when partners with Mercedes, they couldn't of picked a better platform to go with. It is well put together, reliable and totally sorted out. Don't want to jinx myself. My 2020 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack 392 Daytona is great, it handles better than a Challenger (don't take my word for it read the auto mag reviews) and goes like hell. Had it down to 12.40. at Lebanon Valley Dragway in NY last year. My daily commuter car into NYC. This car has no other options other that what comes with a base R/T Scat Pack plus the Daytona Package which is still a pretty loaded car. (No sunroof, etc) Talk about Fast with Class. ;-) I bought this car as my son has had two of them. Like ReidK loved it when I twice rented a Charger R/T 5.7 in Florida on vacations so I special ordered and bought mine.

That's a sweet ride. Some of the tricked out Chrysler 300s are nice too.

My kind of Hemi Challenger. May not handle like newer ones, but way more fun to drive.

Here's a trick for riding in a hot car on a hot day - put a beach towel/fluffy towel on the seat. It will soak up the sweat and keep the you and the vinyl dry.

My buddy who owns the 71 also owns a Plum Crazy 2012 or 2013 Challenger. Haven't driven that one yet.

No doubt the newer version handles and drives much better, but how many 70 or 71's do you see? :D
