I have a 1970 Buick GS rolling chassis that was a drag car. Lots of the "Buick" is gone (shaved body, fender liners missing, grill missing, interior gone with fiberglass racing buckets, motor, tranny, original wheels all gone, etc.). What remains is the body (nice), custom paint (nice), and a big empty spot to install all my BBC stuff. The goal is a street/strip car w/o a ton of money. Since I have all the BBC (0.040 over 9.25 CR ported iron heads with Weiand Action Plus, etc.) and numerous Chevy pattern parts like tranny's and such (Chevy pattern TH400's), there is no point in chasing real Buick power. And there is no positive end to it since it still would not be a "correct" GS. The car sports a Buick 10-Bolt with a Eaton Posi and 3.73 gears. What I could use is some insight into BBC to Buick cross member engine mounting ideas? I'd like to keep high density rubber or poly mounts for the street side, so no motor plate or solid mounts if they can be avoided. The hood has been whacked to allow air cleaner through with a fiberglass cowl induction piece nicely painted and fitted. That gives a little wiggle room on height, but I'm thinking the Weiand manifold will use most of that, so would like to stay as low in the bay as practical ... Any ideas?
I would assume you'd just use whatever is available for a Chevelle - the crossmember should be the same.
Re2: I think I belong here ... Yeah, I get most of you guys are die hard Buick folk. But a drag car is just a collection of parts anyway. Whatever works. Why BBC instead of BBB, well cause I already have have the stuff left over from my C20 (pickup) project. I'm just doing some recycling with a Buick shell and a bit of style And to Jason's concern, I'm fine following the BBB guys
Everyone has to be somewhere so if you're comfortable here who's to say this isn't the right place. Welcome to the V8Buick camp. We all share common and uncommon interests so have at it. I think you'll probably fit in quite well. :TU:
Welcome, anytime someone saves an old car from being parted out or from being scrapped, they are OK in my book!:TU: Derek
Re3: I think I belong here ... Well yeah, that's what happened. This old ex-drag car was sitting on flat tires and fading away and I kept looking at it. Finally I asked the owner what the deal was. He took it in for payment on some pro-welding work he had done for the family and they could not raise the cash. But, he wanted it gone and was getting ready to push it to the curb with a best-offer take it away deal. I could see it getting parted out for eBay or something, so ... I looked at my stash and figured I could make it go pretty well with a refresh on my motor and a spare tranny I have. So I wrote the check and took it home. I'll post pictures as it starts to come together. but that's at least a few months off. Many immediate tasks that need doing first ... When I do get it going I'm going to need help sorting the interior - there is none to speak of. I'll be looking for used parts for front and back seats. I can do the door panels and plate up the dash in aluminum as that's appropriate. but I'd like real Buick seats to sit on
