Install carpet before or after paint?

I took out the carpet so I could clean out the tar stuff underneath and check the floor. Luckily there wasn't a single rust spot to be seen and I put the seats back in again. I will have to have the car painted at some point in the near future, and I'm wondering if I should wait with putting in a new carpet until the painting is done, or should I just go ahead and install one first, and then maybe take it aout for paint later?

What is a good product (besides a scraper) to get rid of the last sticky remains from the tar matt? Or would that be a good sticky base to have for some foil insulation?

What kind of insulation should I get under the carpet, someone mentioned water heater foil, but which thickness would be ideal?

Should I get a carpet for my particular car model, or can I get some generic material and mold it somehow? How does this work?

Any other tips for this procedure?

    Many thanks for your help!

I bought my carpet through Year 1, it was made by ACC. I put a layer of Dynamat down for sound insulation. The carpet came with a pretty good insulation / sound deadner on the back as well.

Take out the seats and carpet, otherwise there will be all kinds of sanding dust on everything.

    Ask me how I know.......
