Ordered them online, went for the cheapest, 13.99 for two, 10 and 14 degree bushings.
Had to do a minor bit of filing, had to put a flat on the 14 degree bushing.
So I can run 16 initial and with only 14 degrees of mechanical for a total of 30 degrees.
I ran 33 total, then 36 total at the track, 36 seems to slow me down a mph or so.
Then I thought “maybe try LESS total timing”
So next spring I’ll see how 30 total does, so I have to wait 9 months for winter to pass:p
    Be ready Guy:cool::p;)

Where did you get them? I could only find bushings for the HEI dist.
I ended up making my own from these, cut them to length and filed flats on them to fit the slot in the advance plate.

There is a place I think called mso sells them......I have used them b4........ I will say they didn't live long. The steel plates cut a groove in the aluminum bushings.....I think the factory ones are made from a better material

You may be correct, the original one looked like a different metal.
I’ll have to keep an eye and ear on it, thanks for the heads up!

I went on Amazon, I typed in “advance limit bushings for MSD distributor” then looked for the cheapest price.

Ours cut that groove in like 500 hrs....1 charter season I found it doing spring tune up of cap and rotor......went to unscrew the rotor and it swung.......and I was like ummmm you shouldn't move that far.

Just another reason I like to lock them out.

    Mark,
Were the bushings made out of aluminum instead of steel?

Do the MSD bushings fit the stock Delco non-HEI distributor? I see HEI kits too, but nothing for the points distributors except stock size bushings.
The original bushings (on my 66's) were rubber or plastic.... long gone.
Moroso bushings look to be bronze. Accel look to be alum.

Like you, my goal was to reduce the total mech advance, oversize bushings were required. I couldn't find them, so I made my own.

Now that I have had first hand experience installing them and knowledge that you guys have mentioned I’ll keep an eye on it!
If the aluminum doesn’t hold up, how the heck did GM figure rubber or plastic would?
    Good to know either way!

I found and ordered these steel bushings from Amazon. 10 for $7.93! Very close to correct size. I put one in my drill and a drill bit in my vise to increase inside diameter to almost 3/16. Highly recommend these.

If you have these aluminum bushings and you have another aluminum part you need anodized.
Ask the player to hard coat anodize your bushings.
They will be surface harder then steel.

I believe these galvanized steel ones should be plenty hard. Size is almost perfect. I could probably send one out in a regular envelope if someone wants to try one out. I don't need all 10 ;)

I found a place Called FBO Ignition and they say their bushings are CNC machined and made in USA, they cost more than what you guys have been showing they want $39.00 for them with shipping. What ya think.
