Hello fellow buick enthusiast. I recently registered within this forum after researching several others on the internet. I love all types of musclecars especially buicks & camaros. High performance is in my blood, I drag race every weekend or help my friends out with their projects every chance I get. My wife and I purchased a nice 1972 Skylark 2 door post which was in excellent condition and had all original paperwork. The car is all original and I'm debating a couple of things: 1. Should I leave the car in its current form or convert it to a GS? 2. Did they even build a post version in the GS 350 for that year? 3. If I convert it to a GS would it add a great deal to the value or take away? I have found a true GS car rather hard to come by, at least one that is not a rust bucket with missing parts. Comments and suggestions welcome.
Sleeper, I'm no expert but here's my 2 cents. Theoretically speaking, even if you restored the Lark to a #1, it might not be worth quite as much as a GS clone in a decent restored condition. Since I suspect that the GS is a more sought after car, you'll get more out of it if you decide to sell. You also want to take into consideration what you're doing with the car. Are you going to use it as a driver? If so, do what you want with it! Make it a GS and throw in a 455 Stage 1 and have lots of fun with it! Adam
Adam, I am definitely leaning toward the GS conversion. We want to enjoy the car by driving it to local car shows and drive-ins. The GS hood and overall presentation looks menacing. I've done some preliminary calculations and started a list of items I'll need to make a successful conversion. Still need several parts! I will post a detailed lst of what I need in the near future. Thanks for your reply and good luck!
Sleeper, Check out the green 72 post Skylark in the section "Who likes green cars?" Very cool looking and fast post car.:TU:
GOTBUICK, Hey thanks for the advice! I'll check it out and see what I can find. You have a really nice GSX, cool picture. Kevin
fresh from the street welcome- kevin sounds like you'll need dog dish hubcaps! perfect sleeper ! good luck and enjoy the site!:TU: :TU:
Don't forget that you can go all the way rodding the car, and if you keep all the original stuff you took out to put in high performacne goodies, you can always bring it back to a numbers matching original car later on. Or you could give your buddy your original 350 like I did, and he could blow it up.
Hi, i see you're from T town. I live in Bham. I also do alot of drag racing (every weekend really). Where do you race? I probably know you. I also just registered on this board as i am looking at a 70 GS455 stage 1 car that i hope to buy soon. Later.. warren..
I have a 72 Skylark 2dr post with a GS hood and I really like the look. There were no post GSs in 72 so you can't make a clone, just build what you like. Besides it's very unlikly that you will ever get out of a car what you put into it money wise. Hope all of your interior door panels are good cause they don't interchange with the hardtops, back seats are different also, found out the hard way myself. Dave Berry :bglasses:
72 Post Resto Dave, thanks a lot for the good information. The question of whether or not they made a GS post was burning in my mind and you answered my question. Everything inside the car is pretty sound, just needs some minor touch up here and there. Door Panels- Good Headliner- Perfect Dash- Perfect Package tray- Needs Replacing Carpet- Needs Replacing Seats- Good Condition, some minor repair I'm thinking about adding a posi unit with a 3.70 gear and few engine enhancements only. I currently am getting a set of wheels built for the car which will help the stance and appearance greatly. I'll stay in touch with you if I have further questions since you have a post. thanks
