well, one step forward, two steps back. got the upper control arm bushing fixed. actually just swapped the arm with another one that had a bushing :eek2: yeah, half of it was gone on the one I pulled off the car. Got the throttle shaft bushings in the base plate on the qjet. really easy considering this was my friend and mine's first time attempting this. Checked the front brakes and oh my  :eek2: surprised I had any brakes at all. Worst condition I've seen on all the front drum cars I seem to acquire, so that goes on the to do list. Front drums are probably trashed, big grooves in them.

so, the to do list. front brakes, thankfully the wheel cylinders aren't leaking. Install crane XR-I. rebuild q-jet then install it. install driveshaft loop after it arrives. should come in sometime this week. order correct fuel line from pump to carb to replace the 2 feet of rubber hose with inline filter :eek2: and then some other little things that I can't recall at the moment. boy, this is fun  :Dou:

Chris, I notice in your signature that your viewing the glass half empty on your mph for the GT37, shouldn't there be another X BEFORE the decimal?

Made some progress on the 68 over the weekend. Got it started (after replacing the parts I cannibalized trying to get the 66 to run better (still sick) and switched bays in the garage with each other. Had planned to change oil and begin cleanup, but sounded so good and the smell of Turbo Blue is such an aphrodisiac, decided to run it up and down the street a few times in front of the house. Monster burnout through first gear and continued into second. Too much fun! Had to rest after all that excitement.

Still in garage needing oil change and cleanup. Why do today what I can put off until tomorrow? :beers2:

Tom, you probably have a good point. Let's hope I get the car back together and at Martin to find out. Of course, we also have to remember this is my first 4sp car. And I'm itching for more seat time as it's been in the garage on jack stands the past week.

making some progress. FINALLY!!!! :beer Just got back from a second test drive, had an end link break after the first drive today. got the front control arm swapped, new belts, tightened the belts because they were squeeling. installed the driveshaft loop. Those no drill loops are a pain in the butt in to install. Mine was touching the driveshaft :af: So I realized a slight bend up would cure that. Now how to do that. Took it out, used the curb and a sledgehammer and my bend was there. Fits like a glove :beer :beer no more issues there. I also don't think my posi unit is going out and there were two black marks left after doing this :3gears: although they were actually dark on the outside and light in the middle. I also rebuilt the carb last night and tomorrow the correct carb to pump line should be here. Then I get to install the carb and see how good my handywork is. Of course I still need to install the Crane XR-I and a tach. :bglasses:

    ?

Sway bar link? Tie rod end?

Add some air pressure till they are evenly dark all the way across! Heavy edges mean that the center is buckling up and need a little air to flatten out.

sway bar end link. hey, I don't need that to go in a straight line right? it helps weight transfer right? :Brow:

yep, thats another thing on the to do list. have other more important things to do first because if they don't get done, it won't matter if the tires are flat or have 50lbs each

Just wondered. From the suspension description I'm glad you are doing a thorough inspection of everything. :TU:

Oh yea, the '64 made it's way into the front garage last Tuesday for it's pre race inspection and maintenance.

Dave H. are you going to give your coolant advice? I know I'm changing mine as always.

Well, the motor is between the fenders........

nothing is hooked up to it, but it's in there and that is better than the last couple of years ........

Me ,too. I put a fresh load of antifreeze in my cars juet before i put them away for the winter, in case I lose the heat in the garage. I drain it out of there and put in straight water as part of my spring prep for the summer. I always run straight water (with a little water wetter) all summer in case there's a problem at the track. Cleaning up the track is much easier than with anti freeze. We've had some problems in the past. Since our time is limited (especially on the second day) we need to keep the track open as much as we can.

I've been preaching this ever since I started racing Pure Stock in 1999. I'm surprised the tech committees of the races (Pure Stock and FAST) don't at least recommend this. Some tech inspections require it for the big boys.

Nothing wrong with running it in cruise and street conditions either. Car will actually run cooler than with 50/50 antifreeze coolant.

    from PSMCDR site:
Rear Axles: The rear axle must be of the same manufacturer as the car. Any gear ratio is allowed. Driveshaft safety loops are required on all cars 13.99 and faster!

I read here somewhere that these rules apply at Martin too. :TU:

When my car spit out the driveshaft the first year we ran it, it broke in half and the H pipe must have done some good as the front half came out of the car without incident (found it in the grass just past the traps). The rear half stayed in the car and was contained by the mufflers at the back end. Beat up the floorboard and the mufflers, but stayed up in position.

I have a loop now, but it wouldn't have made a difference on that one. I wonder of X pipes and H pipes would suffice as a safety loop in lieu of a regular loop?

BTW Casey fabs a very nice loop that bolts on under the trans crossmember not between the mount on top of the crossmember. That changes your driveshaft and powertrain alignment.

Think Tom Miller was running one one one of the many cars he's had in recent years.

I bought the one on ebay (that bolts between the trans and the crossmember) and by the time I got it bent and trimmed where it didn't rub (I now have a very large diameter custom made shaft after that first year), it looked more like a thong than a loop. :bglasses:

Just finished replacing the posi and gears in the SC/Rambler. Put the 3:54 back in it. May hurt my ET but will be better on the street.
Now a quick tune up and off to Martin.

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

I may now not make it:rant: The owner of the tri-axle I'm putting together stopped by yesterday and with the changes/additions he made has pushed the paint date for the bed back until at least Wednesday:ball:
