Any opinions on rebuild kits? Is one better than another? Better gasket material, thicker? What makes them better or worse?

    :Do No:

I have a preference for Standard brand "Jiffy Kits" for every carb except Holley. On Holley, I will use a Holley kit, or just buy the individual parts I need.

I have used all the different brands at one time or another, None are better than the Standard Jiffy Kits.

Far as I know, all the companies just buy gaskets and small parts from the OEM and package them as a kit. Very few carb kit "manufacturers" actually make any of the stuff inside. Often, when they do, it's not as good as what the OEM designed.

Match up the gaskets carefully, you always get extras in a kit. Be sure you use the RIGHT one.

The adjustments are at least as important as the parts in the kit. You cannot just toss in a bunch of gaskets, without verifying the float height, float drop, choke tension, unloader, vacuum pulloff(s), etc. The instructions come packaged with the gaskets. (I happen to like the format of the Jiffy Kit instructions best.)
