I have a '72 Skylark convertible and the rear quarter glass does not match up to the frame on the convertible top. Is the glass different for convertibles? Thanks
You need to adjust your window stops and guides to make the window sit/seal correctly. Remove the back seat (both cushions) then remove the side panels. Use a 7/16" socket on a 3/8 drive ratchet to move the stops and guides to make the window seal properly.
Thanks for the replies. I had already checked that. It's the wrong glass. I just was not sure if it was from a hardtop or the wrong year/make. Does anyone know if convertible rear quarter glass for other makes will work? '70-'72 Chevelle, GTO, Lemans, etc... Thanks!
If I cut up a hardtop rear quarter (with manual windows) to fit my '71 convertible (with power windows), what issue am I going to have with the quarter glass, if any? Thanks
You can only use the qtr skin and nothing else from the coupe for your conv....the inner wheel well, inner frame where window goes is completely different than a coupe.
Considering the above information, is it even a viable option to cut up a hardtop quarter to fit a convertible? If so, which would you choose: Used quarters in decent shape with no rust, or new Repros? Thanks again
Don't waste your time with a coupe....get the new skins from Tabco or Sherman...... I think Sherman bought out Tabco...they make good skins.
If I were to use a new quarter from Then & Now, would I only be cutting it down to nothing to use as a skin, or would I be using most of the new quarter? I'm unclear of what needs to be cut to make a coupe quarter, or even a Tabco skin, fit a convertible. Thanks
You would be wasting 30-40% of the coupe qtr for the conv....go to: http://www.buickperformance.com/70GSConv.htm and see where I made the cuts for the 70 GS conv I restored. I used Tabco qtrs on that car as well as 3 others and they fit perfect.
George-Thanks again, this is exactly the kind of info I needed. Do you know if these skins currently available directly from Tabco? Thanks
