Assuming I don't have the luxury of a lift, which would be a correct assumption, what method have you all used to get your car high enough to remove the transmission safely? And how high is considered adequate?

    Hi

I just removed my muncie 4 speed from my 71 GS and I did all by myself. The GS is on jack stands approx. 24" and had plenty of room to unbolt and remove the transmission without the help of a jack. So I hope this helped out!

Thanks. I would have thought I'd have to go higher. I'm taking out a TH-400 to put in a Muncie. Actually, as I write this, I'm thinking the Th-400 may require greater height due to its housing. Plus I have to crawl around under there. I was wondering if I needed to get it up higher than that on blocks or something?

Just swapped TH-400's a couple of weeks ago. Did it on jackstands, no problem. FYI, with a stock pan, the maximum vertical dimension is about 17".

Also, got any more pictures of your car?

that's a nice pic! Nick Sloop will have to step out to change his "Depends" when he sees it!

What is the color code and what color interior do you have? I'm trying to figure out how close my repaint is to original color, and another member is trying to sort out interior colors. My "171" interior looks a bit faded, and we are trying to find nice, well preserved examples to compare.

    thanks,
    dewey

BTW, what should we call you?

I've been called Tom ever since I was born so I guess that will work.

My paint is not original. It is a Nassau Blue which was a Corvette color. The original color was Misty Blue (D1, I think) which was a lighter, less intense blue. There is evidence of it still in the well for the convertible top. I've seen color charts on the web. You can also get brochures on the web or swap meets that may help. Go to a swap meet and browse through the '68 stuff. If you find something with your color in it, buy it. It's a place to start.

My interior is white with black carpet and dash so not much to match there.
