I watched the end of the auction as well, and saw its end with mixed emotions. While financially I could have been in the mix, my cooler head did prevail.

First thing on my thirty-year- old mind was that nobody could build a bad boy like this for that kind of $, and that the car needs to be in Buick family.

My almost 57-year-old mind was diligent enough to look at the grand scheme of things and sit my younger self down to talk about practicality and motive, things like my distance to the nearest drag strip, lack of space and a whirlwind of other reasons to say no. Not to mention I'm already neglecting my first project Buick.

I can only hope that his car will be in the hands of another who cares and will keep it living for what it's meant to do. Enough said.

I never met John, but admired him and his work.

Seen this before.. the market for used Buick race cars is horrible, always has been. Pennies on the dollar. You have to have something very fresh, and have just the right guy to come along to get even near what they are worth. Any kind of time limited sale is going to bring disappointing results.

For those of you who knew George Sweesy you probably remember his car. I build and raced it with him in the early 2000's.

That 8 second tube frame GS was bought by one of John Massoud's friends out east, Greg Looker. George delivered the car out there to a drag strip that they either rented, or there was a test and tune going on.. they dropped it out of the trailer and it clicked off an easy 8 second pass.

George then sold it to him for 25K.. George had Cancer, and needed it gone..

    This is the car:

I loved that car and it would be in my shop except when it was for sale times were tight.

Jim, I remember reading about George and the car twenty years ago thanks to you.

I know full well where my 30-something mind was yesterday. It was me - single, co-renting a great shop for all things auto, 35 minute drive to Milan Dragway from Dexter Michigan where I was happily employed as an engineer for fuel & brake systems. Then would have been a good time to purchase a car like this. Now is not.
