I know some may not want to do this because of not being original but here goes.....how do you Regal guys like having to hold the license plate down to fill up the gas tank? I dont.....so an easy fix is to turn to another Buick for help...the Buick Roadmaster.....late model Roadmasters have license plate holders that stay down on their own to pump gas the stay up when you finish....they are spring loaded to hold their position either way....I picked up 2 from the Pull-a-part for $7 and they are a direct bolt on......also these can be found on Caprices also.........:Brow:

I also have to hold the plate down on my Wildcat and it only opens half way because Im yet to remove the trailer hitch.
I plan to look into this after I get the hitch off. Thanks.

I used to just wedge them open with the gas cap...had to do that on almost all old cars...some of them even have a couple built-in tangs for the cap.

Just to make it easier the 91-96 b-body sedans have the stay down plate feature. That includes Chevy Caprice/Impala SS, Buick Roadmaster, Cadillac Fleetwood. The wagons don't have this feature since they have fillers on the side like most cars. Also the "boxy" cars from '77-'90 have the standard "cut your fingers off" plate brackets. I used one from a '95 on my '84 just to preserve my fingers at the pumps.

If your car has a slightly narrower plate bracket than the b-bodies use then you can also look for ones from certain year Camaros. I don't remember exactly what year they added the stay down spring though.

Yeah, that's what I do. I have an '81 Regal, and it has little tabs on the right where you stick the gas cap in upside down to hold the plate open while you pump.
