    Hello all buick fans

I've just bought a 1966 Wildcat GS and im trying to find all the info on the car that i can get. I would really like to know exactly how rare these cars are and which options that might be standard or special. I've been told that its a rare car i got but i would like to get and second opion.

Several on here are experts on that car like Topcat. It was a one year only Wildcat option. The are some fakes out there too.

Morten, welcome and congrats on the Wildcat!
Which one did you get? There was one for sale in Virginia that I have seen and know pretty well. :TU:
I have the production data at home, I will PM you.

Morten, does it have the 425 with the Y48 option? dual quads? Only year for that option. 68, 584 Wildcats were produced in 66, but only 21 had that option.

    Hey there...

It was a screaming cold day when we went to pick up the car at dan's place last friday. We drove home in snow and rain. But now it's washed an tugged in the warm garage just waiting for me to get my hands on it.

There were not too many GSs made. I don't know the numbers but I'm sure that eventually somebody on here will post them. I really like that Blue color. It's the same as my father's 66GS Riviera that he bought new. We had white interior. Congratulations on finding a very nice and low production car, especially so far away from it's original home market. Get her out on the autobahn across the border in Germany, see how fast she'll go, and report back.

Incidentally, I'd get some fresh tires on there first if they're old. Blow outs are not a good idea in these big cars at that speed. I've done it myself in the Riviera at only 70MPH and it was scarey. The hubcap flew off and it was all I could do to keep control while trying to stop while the left front tire was flying apart in pieces.

All five rims are new so it shouldn't be a problem... When i drove it the day after i brought it home the speedo showed easily 110 mph...

    Welcome!

Morten, WELCOME! Nice ride! Just don't let Ted (Special Wagon 65) get near you or you will be with out a ride!  . What you need to do with it is tear apart the interior and throw all of it away,.... Since I am a nice guy I will come by and pick up the stuff so you won't have to worry about getting rid of it and then I would chop the top and replace the motor with a Chevy or a Ford motor and of course I will take that away also
All kidding a side NICE RIDE! GOOD LUCK WITH HER!
Ted is a good source of information for you.Along with many others on this site! Ted has helped me out a lot! I think my Wildcat would still not be running if it was not for him and some other people. :TU: . There are alot of :Smarty: people here on Buicks and cars in general. So feel free to ask any question, There is no such thing as a "DUMB QUESTION" here. So ENJOY your new ride! :3gears: :3gears: :beer :beer

    Hi

Most of all i'm interested in the exact production numbers. And an explanation of the difference between a custom wildcat and a non custom. Along with the papers that came with the car was a original dealer orderform. It was not filled out but if i compare my car with the options available it almost got'em all. According to the vin i it's a custom. 466376C119490. The car is fitted with a TH400 transmission now but i have the original switch pitch tranny. But it's not working. Will it do anything to the cars performance if i get it fixed and put it in?

    Thanks for the reply

    Morten

    `66 Wcat GS

    Hi Morten,
The two interior trim levels available on the `66Wcats are the standard and custom trims. The standard trim looks like a deluxe LeSabre, rather plain. The custom trim has a different pattern in the upholstery,a wide Al trim on the side panels and other miner "upgrades".I think most folks would express a preference for the custom trim interior, it is much more attractive.
The production figures for the GS hardtops are 164 standard trim and 852 custom trim. The rarest `66 Wcat GS is the standard trim convert at 41 units.Obviously the buyers in `66 also preferred the custom trim models!
The original trans is a turbo 400 with the switch pitch feature. There is a definite difference in feel when the switch pitch is functional but depending on the stall speed of the converter you are running it is hard to say if you would notice an improvement in performance.
Hope this answers some of your questions....oh, one more thing! From my research which includes both original cars and build sheets it seems Buick was inconsistent in terms of which trans they installed in the GS Wcats. Some cars were built with the same BS coded trans as the Riv GS models and some were built with the BT coded trans which was speced out for the regular 425 cars. Check the trans tag on your "original" trans. If it is a BS coded trans I would strongly urge you to have it rebuilt/reinstalled into your Wcat GS!! :Smarty: :Brow: :TU:
