I was wondering if anyone has a Kent Moore J-28542 low/reverse clutch removal/install tool for a 2004R trans. they are not using anymore. Going to need one eventually to rebuild my ‘87 trans.
    Thanks, Lars

I rebuilt my 2004R transmission last year and had no issue installing low/reverse clutch assembly without the tool. The only issue I had was cutting the over run clutch inner seal. It's small and difficult to reinstall. I ended up taking the clutch assembly to my vocational school partner who does transmissions for a living. He had a tough time installing piston. He ended up using a seal protector that looks like a floppy CD. He took the seal out of a new rebuild kit and of course, that seal isn't available separately. I found a new GM seal online for him. I have only rebuilt three of these and that was back in the 80's under warranty so I'm not that familiar with them, but make sure that you keep all of the old seals with the clutch that they came from. There are three large outer seals on IIRC, the forward, direct, and fourth clutches that are very similar. One is slightly thicker.

Good to know. I was a GM tech for over 30 years, but didn’t do transmission overhauls. Replaced valve bodies, TCC, shift solenoids, etc. One of my coworkers was damn good with transmissions, but he passed away about 5 years ago. I thought I had a tool bought from a guy in WI on Facebook marketplace, but he tried to gouge me with the shipping to make up the difference in price that we agreed on. Thanks for the info sir! Happy Holidays!…Lars

TexasT Texas, where are you from

get the metal one. the plastic gm/kent Moore ones I have the glue has stopped being glued and the plastic construction I'm sure is very brittle as old as it is. you can also use three strands of #12 solid core wire with a 90* bend to get in there and pull that out. getting it back in isn't near as hard as the removal is sometimes.
