Kick down cable adjustment

I'm hoping I did this right, when I detailed the engine and engine bay of my '72 skylark 350-4 and after I got everything back together I've noticed the TH350 transmission wouldn't kick down. I'm thinking I did something to the cable when I was moving stuff around. We'll tonight I thought investigate, the kd cable doesn't hook up to the carburetor it goes right from the gas pedal though the firewall the down to the trans.

From inside the car I depress the pedal to the floor by hand and noticed the kd cable was loose so I slid the little keeper back (I had to use a pair of pliers and a screwdriver) to where the cable had no more slack just at the point then the cable stopped. I would say I have maybe slight tension on the cable the I took it out for a test drive. To me it worked great. The car would shift thought all three speeds the when I pushed the pedal to the floor it would downshift and when I let off I'd be back in third gear again.

Seemed simple and worked. Am I missing something or is the way I adjusted the kd cable the correct?

    Thanks,

    Brad

Seems good. Cable has to be all the way extended at full pedal travel. If it is, and it works fine, it's good. It's not like a TV cable where the adjustment is crucial to the pressures inside the transmission. All it does is pull a little valve next to the VB and allow a pressure change and a downshift to the next lowest gear based on your speed. It either works right or it doesn't. I have mine disconnected at the carb (mainly due to laziness), and the trans works perfectly fine. Just have to manually downshift it if I want to get up and move. Plus it's winter here, so I'm not gonna hook it up until spring as my car sees snow.

If you look at the Chassis manual, they tell you how to adjust the cable. Basically what you did. You position the clip for minimum length, then floor the gas pedal. It self adjusts by sliding that clip to the perfect length.

Thanks Larry, I've been meaning to pick up a manual. I've want to get a book copy but they cost a lot so I'll end up getting a DVD copy...

If you keep an eye on Ebay, they come up for more reasonable prices. Right now, the prices are out of line. I've seen them for much less.
