Hey guys, I have a kill story although I wish it didn't happen.

I just got off of work yesterday and I was on my way straigt home (for once) thinking "I'll finally have some wind down time and be able to get some things done." As I am cruising through New Orleans (not the best part of town either) a big chevy truck cuts across the highway from the other side of the street (six lanes total) trying to beat the traffic and get into a gas station; I tried to stop and I though for a second that I might miss him but it wasnt enough time. BLAM!!! I hit the rear quarter of the truck (flung it into the air a bit and pushed the bumper into the middle of the tailgate) and then I finally came to a stop. I get out to inspect the damage and then - get this.... the !@#$% tries to take off!!!!

    Big mistake.

    :3gears:

    ^^^I didn't have a happy face though...^^^

I chased that !@#$% through the gas station and backstreets and finaly into a dead end with my hands on my :blast:

He looks over at me ans says "Are you alright?" I wanted to waste him right there. I said "are you going to come back and take care of business? If you run, I'm just going to chase you."

He says "Yeah alright." I didn't trust this guy as far as I could smell 'em.

Turns out this guy is a convicted felon that just got out of jail. I called NOPD (takes two hours to show) and finally get the paperwork. Luckily the truck was insured (it's his uncles truck - I'll bet he's going to be real happy about this) so I'm not too worried about the damage. I'll need the end cap, fender, Maybe a bumper and I *think* everyhing else can be straightened. I stopped by my ol' man's place and he managed to straighen the cap enough for me to get a light in - it points down and out but at least I have two.

When the adreneline wore off, my neck started to hurt and it's been getting worse ever since. I'm on my way to the doc in a little bit.

    :Smarty:

Moral of the story... don't try to outrun my Buick; always wear your seat belt; but most important, don't try to pull one over on me.

    I'm so mad I could just sue!!!:af:

I'm glad you weren't hurt. I guess you could say that the [IMG] really hit the fan for that guy when he reached the end of that street!

    Hey Byron,

Glad you are ok after that crap.Hopefully the insurance will take care of your car.

Good idea on carrying the gun,I sure as hell do not like to go into New Orleans for any reason, especially without one myself. We have to have the worst drivers ever in this friggin city, especially outside the CBD.I refuse to go anywhere near that area anymore.

Anyway, glad everything seems to be ok,and I hope the trip to the Doc is positive for you.

Wow, I've always thought about something like that happening and what I'd do, it's a good thing you weren't hurt, and that you were carrying the gat just in case. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be getting a concealed weapons permit and a handgun when I return to the US....not just because of stuff like this, but also my job requires me to be proficient with small arms and they don't give enough training/practice to remain as proficient as I'd like to be.

It's a good thing it wasn't a newer car with an electric fuel pump shutoff relay, otherwise you'd have to stop and reset that while the bastard gets away! Good on ya!

Well, what do you expect from No PD?

Really, though, that sucks. I hope the doctor gives you a clean bill of health.

Is that a picture of the bastard in your Avatar?
He looks pretty tough bro. Good thing you had a strap.

I hope the Doc gives you some good news. It could be a lot worse and I am glad to hear you are otherwise alright.

    Thanks

    Thanks, guys.

Doc said these types of injuries are typical; the pain is more of a nuisance than anything else.

I'm already getting repair quotes, although I'm being told the parts will be a tall order. If you know anybody has a fender/ light bezel for a '73 Century (passenger side), please let me know as I may not find what I need here and I haven't come across any of the parts on ebay.

    OH!!!

After reading my post again I wanted to make one thing clear that may have sounded misleading...

I did not in any way point my peice at the guy. In fact, I made an effort to conceal being armed for the entire duration of the eposide - always keeping it hidden and within a moments reach.

Never point a gun at ANYONE unless you absolutely intend to shoot. Being careless with firearms is a factor in giving guns a bad name.

    hey Galaxie 69

What aprt of new orleans were you driving in, that seems to happen the most on claiborne ave. I had a guy cut me off from the right lane in a black chevy pickup when i was in my jeep in the left lane, to make on of those turn arounds. I went through the u turn with him to avoid the accident but my roommate at the time had is foot on the other guys door (I had the doors off my truck) through part of that turn.

As far as the gun thing, I don; tthink anybody outside of new orelans can understand just how dangerous that city really is. My favorite used to be the 13 year olds who used to through bricks at the motorcyclists heads while they were riding so they could steal the bikes.

    Chef Menteur

I was going eastbound on Chef Mentuer between Dowman Rd. and the onramp to I-10 - definitely not a nice area. An old buddy of mine got carjacked on St. Claude and thrown out of his car at about 30mph. He ran all the way back to St. Bernard (there's a police sub-station at every enrty point to New Orleans - go figure) and never got his car back. Since then I pack the heat on the seat until I'm somewhere out of the city.

New Orleans is a dirty crooked place; I grew weary of the city by the time I was 13. I only go there because I have to work there.

True it is a dirty crooked place, but I loved living there. However I have lived in dirty crooked cities all my life so one in a tropical climate just appealed to me. It was much easier to find people who are into what you are into, than say new york. Plus the people I have met down there have a better appreciation for their own lives and actually do stuff besides live television rerun fantasies and run the same rut of their life. Even when I used to commute to Metairie for work my own life seemed more interesting than it is now living in manhattan. Plus the junkyards have a lot of cool stuff still lying around if you know where to look.

BTW Galaxie69, do you ever get to knippers salvage yard in Slidell? A friend took me there once and they had some cool stuff. Beside two running 455 fulsize buicks (a 73 that had been t-boned, and a black blues mobile 74 with an interior fire) I found a 442 convertable, 69 camaro convertable, triumph sptifire (that the jaws of life had gotten to), a 61 dodge wagon with puchbutton tranny, and a million 1930's to 40's trucks. Might be a good place to check out for old buick parts.

  15. i like my 454 raging bull. also shot the 50 cal desert eagel but sold that off to a friend now. when deer hunting i carry my dan wesson 357 for a kill shot. the dang 454 just is too much to pull up on an animal and with that gun once you shot you can't get a decent follow up shot if you need to.

Knippers is a good place for parts and it is easy to get there.Just go out 90 past the Chef bridgr and Rigolets,go past the turn for 433/Old Spanish Trail a few miles till you come to Shortcut Highway and take a left.Easiest way to get there, and not much traffic.

Also check out All Around Auto Body Shop,It is off Pasrish road by the animal shelter,St Bernard Parish Rd I think.Cliff is an old friend of mine,he may be able to help you locate some parts.

You All Must Have ESPN or Something

Actually,I went to St. Bernard to scrounge through the junkyards to see what they had, but get this...

THERE ARE NO LONGER ANY JUNKYARDS ON PARIS RD!!!!

    They're all GONE!!!

I pulled some of the best parts I ever found at those places. Anyway I ventured to N.O. Almonaster/Old Gentilly Rd and hit just about every yard and turned up nothing. There was this one yard with a LOT of old stuff but the guy didn't want to bother or let me go through it !!!-??? What - is he COLLECTING them for something???

I then went to Slidell and eventually hit Knippers and found a mess of Early 70's buicks... but no Centurys or Regals... It's like they all dissapeared off the face of the Earth. - And to think - I saw two of them for sale... one for about 50 bucks COMPLETE!!!!

Even more strange, I have a weird feeling in my gut because I can't find and older vehicles in the junkyards; it used to be common to find but-loads of older stuff, but now the junkyards themselves seem to be going the way of the dodo. What Gives???

ANywho... my old man told me there is this absolutely huge junkyard with oddles of old stuff just south of Hattisburg... I will be making a weekend trip to check it out.

Kase, I'll check it out when I go back that way.

Thanks, guys... I never though finding olf car parts would be so difficult!!!

There is an old man in Columbia,Miss with a few hundred cars on his property. Most of them are from the 50's to the 70's.If you let me know before you go to Hattiesburg,I will see if I can get directions to his house.

Just don't look like a cop,he served time for trading cars for food stamps, and he is VERY leary of people.

Another place you might want to call is Barry's You Pull It in Gulfport. He always has a bunch of stuff out there.

I know there is nothing out here in Waveland,we only have one salvage yard left, and I used to work there. No old Buicks.Mostly crap rusting away, and what old stuff they do have, has probaly been crushed by now.

Thanks China, your need for steel is killing us.

I just called Barry's (who are open "8" days a week) and the gentleman on the phone told me that they have tons of old stuff grouped by make. I am going to try to make a trip there (with tools in hand) sometime this month.

Wish me luck - thanks for the suggestion.

was barry's the one in chalmette that had the 65 mustang fastback stacked on top of a bunch of other cars so it was visible from the road. That yard on the main highway in chalmette (i can't remember the name of it right now). When you go to barry's see if he has any 1967 Pontiac a-bodies there. Thanks.
