top of the line brands are Spies Standox (Dupont) and Glasurit (BASF) and Global (PPG) these are high end European basecoat clearcoat systems...they all have a Factory pkg black but spies offers a Deep Black FP2003 which does not have that brown tone to it...Then you also have Chromabase and Chromapreimer(catalyzed base coat) both from Dupont with multiple clear choices depending on your enviroment...my favorite is 7900s as it is an air dry clear with good flow and ease of sanding...Daimont is made by BASF and also have a # of clears to chose from.....Deltron is made by PPG and also has to versions one using a reactive reducer also with multiple choice of clears...Sherwin Williams also make Ultra Base 7 but it has been many years since i have used it....ALL the systems work as long as you follow the directions.....most important part is the prep work and using a good quality @K primer from within the system....bare metal use etching or epoxy primer....hope this helps

What? No Hammerite on your list?!? :puzzled: I know someone has painted a car with that before.

Sorry to hijack this thread green3504gs, I'm sure you understand. :)

So a cool combo for black would be Permacron FP 2003 base and ChromaClear 7900S...following instructions...I guess..

nope the FP2003 with spies 8180 clear......try to stay with a system from primers to top coat......or Chromabase with 7900s...or D9300 with Global clear....try not to mix brands....its like putting a FORD part:spank: on your Buick:grin:

I know what you mean about the Ford parts on a Buick. I still can't get used to the "Ford style Cap-A-Dapt" distributor cap on my MSD distributor.

Can you buy this stuff from a traditional auto paint store? Is a secret handshake or ID card required? I have an experienced seasoned auto painter to apply this product, so I won't be spraying this $tuff around the air.
