Paul and I are planning on going to Lapeer Saturday with a couple of friends, I will be taking the Vette and I am trying to get Paul to take the Impala......... anyone else interested in going ?
Donny I am bummed as that is my home track but I will be out of town. Have fun, watch the oil pan on the return lane bumps and stay out of the dirt the best you can. Mark
I prefer to think of LAPEER INTERNATIONAL DRAGWAY as being "rustic". One of the few strips where you can hit a deer or a farm combine (or both) at the top end. Track prep consists of dirt and sand blowing across the track. Don't forget to pick up your time slip at the hot dog stand-but use the side window!! Word is that Lapeer is also a little "short" i.e. not quite a 1/4 mile. Most guys who run there post personal best times. They are consistantly faster there than at any other track. We watched a test n tune gamblers race last year. The final pair was a 9 second 1965 Falcon and a old guy on a Honda Spree scooter. They run 1/8th mile for brackets. The old guy on the scooter mowed down his competition with blistering, but consistant, 23 second 1/8 mile times!!!! He took home the cash and trophy. Most of his opponents redlit whilst waiting for their side of the tree... Yup, Lapeer is my favorite kind of track. BTW: I am working Saturday as usual so I can't meet you guys up there.
Rustic... I used to run there when you had to bring your own water for the burnout! Here's a view from the end of the pits looking east; still looks about the same. Use the bathroom before you get to the track :TU:
