I am wondering if the 1976 Electra series is the largest Buick ever built. 233 inches, 127 inch wheelbase.
It's even longer: 233.3 inches.... But..........model year 1975 Electra and Estate Wagon are 233.4 inches :Smarty:
That's still 10 inches short, what's your point o No: ? The model year 1974 Riviera was the longest Riv in history with 226.4 inches
The 75 Electra and Estate Wagons were also heavier than the 76 models probably because of the front bumper and grille. The 76 has plastic headlight bezels and plastic filler between the bumper and the grille. The front bumper is also different in 76's and seems less prone to rust than 75's. Other than that, I have seen very few differences between the two models. Here are some of these: the gas and brake pedals were changed seat cloth was different door panels were also different on the base Electra 225 model some radios were modified the sun visor brackets changed the a/c vents knobs and parking brake release handle were black instead of chromed plastic in 76... Under the hood, the fresh air intake hose was removed in 76. The horns were redesigned some a/c parts were modified and the a/c muffler was made of steel and painted black in 76 instead of the aluminium muffler on 75's. Not much to change the car's weight there!
The 1975 is heavier, let's see The Standard Catalog of Buicks states: --1975-- -Base 4706lbs- 4 door 4582lbs- 2 door -Limited 4762lbs- 4 door 4633lbs- 2 door --1976-- -Base 4641lbs- 4 door 4502lbs- 2 door -Limited 4709lbs- 4 door 4521lbs- 2 door If the '75 headlamp bezels are metal in '75 would they fit a '76? Does your '75 have vinyl taillight housings?
The 1973 Buick Riviera's curb weight is heavier at 5047lbs. Then the 1974 Buick Riviera at 5035lbs and 1975 Buick Riviera at 5002lbs.
No they don't., unless you fit a 75 bumper, grille and the metal panel above the hood. Then your 76 will look like a 75...! Taillights are the same
Does anyone have '76 Electra parts? I really need some stuff, I hate driving it incomplete. Here is my list: In-dash clock Plastic reciever that the screw for the driver's side y axis headlamp tilt screws into. Driver's side remote mirror with control unit. Urethane shroud that surround the headlamp assembly for the passenger side. Driver's side visor with vanity mirror and lights (maroon). Rear bumper running lights with the housing and the red lens. Metal stake that holds down the spare tire and bottom of the jack base plate. Rallye 15" 5x5 wheels, if they make them. I think 5x5 is the bolt pattern.
Talk about bad timing, this previous winter I had a '76 Electra that I used just for the motor, then sold for parts. The car went to board member bop_connection, you might want to see if he still has any of those parts. The car was pretty rusty, but there were a number of good parts to be had.
Hmmm. I don't know much about old old Buicks but the Standard Catalog of Buick says the O.L of the 1940 model 90 is 219 1/2 inches.
I'd like to see those numbers after it was actually put on a scale. My car weighs 4700 with me in it....and those cars aren't much different. Where could all that extra metal be?
The Stage 1 option adds about 143 pounds, and the new front and rear impact resistant bumpers. The bumpers could probably weigh 500lbs.? In 72' the rear bumper was probably 75-100lbs. Thats all I can think of. For the Riviera in 72' it increased 100lbs from 71'. Then 500lbs for 73', which seems believeable.
