I have always known about the Comfort Flo ventilation on 1970 GS but I never knew it was forced air, I always thought it was just manual venting by opening and closing the vents down on the kick panels. A very COOL option!
From when I remember, it also has two sets of blower motors. I looked at a yellow 70 GSX basket case for sale in Atlanta 25 years ago and it had that option. Can’t remember the name of the guy who was selling it but he also had a beautiful aqua colored 70 stage one that was a multiple award-winning car.
Wow, never knew or would think they would put a option like that in a Skylark body. Would think to be a option for the high scale Riv's and Electra's. 72Stage1, how did you come across it and post that pic? Anyone know if it was available on a AC car? I would think it was option that not many dealers knew about and missed when people ordered their cars.
The standard manual ventilation was called Comfort Flow, option I2 added the blowers to make it Forced Comfort Flow ventilation. It does not say it could not he ordered with AC but I don't see why not since it uses outside air for ventilation and would be closed off when the AC was running.
I was thinking it was "poor" mans AC So the blower switch works in conjunction with the pull vent knobs at the front feet?
It was on the description of the 1970 Stage 1 Aqua Mist Convertible car at Mecum next auction in March.
I don't think AC cars could get it, since the cowl vents are blocked in the kick panels. Plus, the RH blower motor for this option fills up the cowl cavity quite a bit. There is a blower motor in each side of the cowl that directs air through the kick panel vents. Air can still pass through if they aren't activated, as they are just hanging there with a couple nuts and a self tapping screw on the side saddlebag.
Either. It uses the same cable controls on the non-AC kickpanel. I always wondered if it could be had w/AC but @Smartin makes a good point. Would certainly be odd but maybe doable. The ends of all 3 of the bolts for the fans (2 ea. on cowl & 1 on saddlebags) were all clipped off with bolt cutters on the assy. line. I remember having a parts car back in the day that must've has this option and thinking it was some aftermarket setup. My '71 GS convertible has it (1 of 7) & the lady I bought it from (deceased orig. owner's GF) kept saying it had AC & how rare it was. Car was apart but obviously didn't have AC & I wasn't going to say anything - I just wanted to get loaded up & out of there. Wasn't until I got home and started looking that I realized what she was talking about.
