Trying to get car ready for a national car show... Winner goes to Barrett Jackson. This is what hood insulation looked like, what it looked like after I removed it, and what it looks like now. Should I leave it or remove it?
Leave it. Car is not stock anyway. Of course, the fact that you are asking makes me think you don't like it?
Some possibilities for you. On my '76 I wanted some insulation and sound deadener. I added the stick-on polyethyline Cool It inside the framework and it can handle high temps. Boy it works great plus it adds big stiffness to the hood. When you close the hood now it doesn't flex and closes with authority. I would suggest to anybody using regular factory insulation in earlier models use this stuff under it and it will make a huge difference in the way the hood feels when closing. On my '69 I had a leftover decent sheet from a later TA, sort of like in your first picture. It was dark gray. I didn't want the earlier light colored insulation so I managed to cut it all down to fit inside the framework. Came out pretty good. Sort of fill in the framework. You could do either on yours if the under hood is painted nice.
