If you think Buicks are hard, try swapping a 4 speed in a 73 Mustang! Ford made 15 different bellhousings, and there all different! Same for the clutch fork...only fits 71-73s. Toploaders are different too....big input, small input "HEH" codes fit early Mustangs, "RUG" codes fit the later ones. Took a while, bought a few incorrect items that I had to resell on Evilbay, but I did it!!

Doesnt the Hurst book list a new shifter for the car? If your buying used, call Hurst with the number off the bottom of the shifter. They will tell you exactly what it fits. Not sure if your buying new or used. I get the same way myself. The sheetrock in my garage is gouged from all the flying tools. Do what I do......close the garage and go have a beer. Leave the car alone for a few days/ weeks. Go cool off and give it another go.

You are right, we stick conversion guys are nuts! Seriously though, why doesn't the shifter work? Why not order up a new Hurst??

    64203,

I converted a 68 Cyclone GT to a stick. Fords use different starters for stick and auto. If you use the wrong one really bad stuff happens. Don't ask me how I know.

Mark, giving up just seems wrong here. All the parts are now available due to some super folks and efforts. I got over all this impossible hard stuff really quick with lots of excellent support and a few skinned knuckles.

If you want to continue on, I do have a 69 4-speed shifter + linkage - we might be able to work something out. PM me if interested.

THANKS for the offer Reg ...but I have to start putting money into other areas of my cars...so the 4 speed stuff goes on to a shelf untill I can get to it again.. the car runs and drive with the auto trans so I'm leaving it for now

when ever I get around to doing it.... I want the right trans and shifter (fat chance of that)
nothing else or it's staying automatic  :af:
I ALLREADY WASTED too much money buying 4 speed stuff  :ball:

OH-AND.... TOO ALL THE HECKLERS :spank: :blast: :moonu: :moonu:
