I would like to decrease how many times i have to turn the steering wheel on my 66 buick significantly. I removed the 4 1/4 turn Saginaw and I am fitting one out of an 84' Z-28 (the bolt holes match..all i have to do is change the rag joint and the pitman arm). The replacement box is 2 1/2 turn lock-to-lock. I know there are 3 turn boxes that can be used - but want even better control. I will be putting anti-sways on the front and rear of the car to increase stability...but i just don't know if this box is too radical a change. I would hate to sneeze and find myself in a ditch next to the highway. Has anyone in this forum ever done this before? If so...did the car still have good manners on the highway? Any advice would be welcome and appreciated. Thanks, Brad
The z-28 box will work but you will lose turn radius because the stops are different. Check this thread http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27989&highlight=jeep
Thanks Doug, I was just trying to figure out how to move this thread to the correct forum...I did see that the stops don't seem to be in the exact same place.
Found the Answers After searching some more i found the specific information about obtaining a quicker steering ratio on my 66: http://www.chevelles.com/techref/shea_1.html Brad
Brad, Glad you found that. It is bookmarked on my laptop but I usually email from my home computer. I printed sections of that out and took it to the yard with me. If you have any speciific questions just email me. I was very happy with my swap.
