When I installed my new headers onto my 2.25" rusty flowmaster exhaust I was quite happy with how the car sounded, it was loud, deep and pleasant unless on the highway at 2500rpm for 3 hours. I decided if 2.25 was good, 2.5 should be better and I ordered a 2.5" h pipe dynomax exhaust. Its just too darn quiet. It sounds great at idle and it sounds great up untill 2000rpm and once you start driving its just quiet. I am not sure if its the super turbo mufflers or the h-pipe or a combination of the two but I want loud and mean:Brow: Not concerned about highway noise or sneaking home late at night so I want something to disturb the peace. I am torn between Thrush glasspacks and Dynomax race bullets at this point since they are on the cheap side and I can't see spending $225 on mufflers after $400 for headers and $300 for this exhaust kit. What do you guys run?
All Magniflow 3" and it sounds great around town and on the highway. Real nice when you open her up!!
I put the same mufflers on my car with three inch pipes and i was not impressed ether.I am going to change them, sounds great without them.
I regret not going 3" but something tells me it wouldn't have been installed on jackstands in my driveway like I was able to do with the 2.5" kit. Guess I'll pull the mufflers off today and decide if 4 db quieter is enough to be drivable:Brow:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPtt8ewrCCk Mild 350, 8.5:1 comp with 800 CFM carb, TA 310 Camshaft, headers, 2.5 inch dual exhaust, H-pipe, and Series 40 Flowmasters. Sound recording isnt too bad, but it really did sound agressive. Downside is that 2500 RPM drone, and you had to cut it off at the drive throughs to place your order. The H and X-pipe exhausts will quiet the car down a bit, just wont have the same rumble as a true dual exhaust. 3 inch exhaust is too big for a stock 350, you really do need a bit of back pressure. 2.5 is the biggest I'd go, even on a high performance motor unless your pushing more than 600 horsepower. Also, as exhaust cools you can go with smaller tailpipes than the main pipes before the muffler and still get a decent rumble. It's all about the mufflers you choose.. As for the exhaust tips, my personal opinion is most cars sound better without them. They do add a bit of an echo, and deffinetly change the sound of the exhaust. Just have the exhaust tucked up tight where its suppose to be and dump it before the rear bumpers. So long as the exhaust isnt staying under the car you'll be fine, and can still enjoy the sound.
hey if you want LOUD I have a setup for you 40 series Flowmasters (2 chamber) 2.5" pipes - true dual no H or X SIDE exit for the exh pipes. Talk about resonance! That setup was too loud for me so I went to three chamber Fmasters, and I still need earplugs on the highway. As an additional note, I will make the claim that large duration camshafts are MUCH louder than their smaller-breathing bretheren. Here is a link of that setup with a Comp 268 cam in a 350, its similar to a TA 212 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FC1kFnIEFno when I went to a larger cam (Poston 118) the noise was unmanageable. Kids and wife didnt even want to ride in the car.
Why would you want a loud car just for the sake of being lolud?? It says "pull me over" and it pisses off the neighbors..
All are some great sounding Buicks and the videos I have watched over and over again since I got into Buicks:TU: Flowmasters sound awesome but I want to be a little different as far as mufflers go, after looking at my exhaust I can't do racebullets due to the offset offset setup. I think ultraflow welded mufflers would sound nice I just want to make sure the sound justifies the almost $200 total. And as far as loud I don't mean open header loud, just something that lets you know there is a v8 under the hood. It sounds great at idle but once you start driving its almost silent. I guess I just felt like the switch from 2.25 to 2.5" exhaust would be a major sound difference but I am sure the stocklike super turbo mufflers don't helpo No: Any correct way to remove a crossover from an exhaust system?
This is how it sounds currentlyo No: <object width="176" height="144" ><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="movie" value="http://www.facebook.com/v/1647912206968" /><embed src="http://www.facebook.com/v/1647912206968" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="176" height="144"></embed></object> <object width="176" height="132" ><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="movie" value="http://www.facebook.com/v/1674420709664" /><embed src="http://www.facebook.com/v/1674420709664" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="176" height="132"></embed></object>

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhHcAccuLLE&feature=related $30 Thrush Welded mufflers, sounds good to me!
If you listen to this with a system that has a subwoofer, it'll be like you're sitting in the car. I've since gotten a better camera mount and a better camera, but I just ordered a new camcorder for the car tonight. New video coming soon. :TU: <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/oV9Y8Kdwnd0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I've got 3 chamber Flowmasters and a 2.5 inch system with an H-pipe. I only get droning around town, not on the highway, but I am considering installing a second set of mufflers to tone it down a little- 12 inch glasspacks, just before the H crossover.
I hear dynomax race bullets also work very well as resonators in instances where there is a little bit of drone but you don't want to decrease flow
Some of those sound just sweet! I just have cheap CHEAP glass packs with 2.5" angled to come out behind the doors all behind Poston headers and I think it's sounds pretty good considering just how cheap it was. (under $40).
Had a question about exhaust pipes and why bigger isnt allways better. Did a little research, and learned that the reasons I had believed arent exactally true. However, "Bigger isnt allways better" is still true for exhaust systems. Here's a very informative link that explains why: http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/bolt-ons-all-motor/106817-exhaust-backpressure-explained-possible-sticky.html I also remember reading somewhere on these forums that 2.5 inch exhaust pipe can effectively handle up to 600 horse power without issues. Above that the 3 inch pipe will be needed to keep from bogging the engine. Hope this helps.
