Just a thought here......are you sure the fuel isn't percolating? That's usually caused by excess heat in the carb or fuel lines.

One more thing to consider here as well is the possibility of debris getting between the needle and seat, occasionally forcing the flooding issue. An old, and hardened needle could cause the same thing, especially if the engine sits for even a short time. Gasoline is not what it used to be. On a similar note, I have dealt w/ Quadrajets having intermittent issue w/flooding, and the culprit being a heavy float, due to fuel absorption. This tidbit is not to start an arguement, but to point out that my experience comes from under the hood, during a time when we were getting tech bulletins on Q jet fixes, and I have seen some of this stuff. I certainly do not want to overlook something I have seen in the past, especially if it will help a Buick owner solve a problem. Good luck.

Just wanted to let all you guys that helped me diagnose my carb problem that a new float along with a new needle valve and seat cured the problem so far. My fingers are crossed but I'm sure its fixed. It was kinda wierd though. Before I took the carb apart with all the fuel out of it I turned the carb upside down and blew through the inlet. Some times I could blow through and sometimes I couldn't. The only thing I could see was the needle valve tip seemed to be a little deformed. I guess thats why it sealed sometimes and other times it wouldn't. It almost looks like it was made that way. Must be a little manufacturing defect. Anyway I'm a happy camper, drove the 53 all over yesterday. Thanks again fellows.:TU:
