I was wondering if anyone has experience with a F*#d 5.4L v8 versus their V-10 in the F-250 crew cab. Not sure if I really need the diesel, but I know I need the crew cab room. Anyone's input is greatly appreciated.:beer

Hey P.D. Forget the 5.4 they are guttless pieces of do-do. In the past few years of moving around the midwest with Menards I've had more than one experience with the 5.4 in moving vans. If its just the van its ok, but put a trailer behind with a car on it and it wouldn't even hold 65 on the freeway.

When I moved from IN to MN I had my trailer on behind the Dakota with dads Silloette minivan loaded on it and could hold 70-75 on the freeway while the van was barely able to hit 70.

My opinion would be that if you must really go with a Ford then get the v-10. If you decide to go GM then a 6.0 would sufice but an 8.1 would be even better.

    One word for ya...."DISSEL":TU:

    Fords new 6liter RULES:bglasses: 325HP/560 ft.lbs of torque:bglasses:

    Dissel facts:
    1)Less maintainance
2)better fuel economy and fuel cost...dissel vs gasoline
3)dissels last longer with less trouble
4)with companies like bully dog.com (and others) there is LOTS of after market upgrades available.

I also recommend towing with a goose neck trailer.

    There was a guy @ Huntsville Ala, and BG KY with his 4x4 F-250 powerstroke running 8.31 @ 84 MPH in the 1/8th and 12.97 @ 103 MPH in the 1/4 .
He had n20, propane injection, turbo, exhaust, injectors, tranny & converter build but this truck looks like your average F-250 4X4 that you'd see running up and down the highways pulling trailers. This one had NO downsides to it's work/pulling capabilities.

    What more would ya need???

We just picked up a new sierra 2500 HD crew cab with the new 8100 vortec (496ci)... its got all kinds of power and torque, came with a 5 speed allison. Cheaper than the desiels, comparable power, decent on gas... plus there performance parts popping up here and there

    my 2cents :TU:

I would take a big block gas engine over a diesel anyday. If I was traveling for long distances then a diesel would be more appropriate. I have a '98 GMC with a 7.4 litre and it pulls like an ox. It's the 3/4 ton model with the HD towing package and a 4.10 gear ratio. Driving tractor trailer I would never buy a diesel for around town driving, just wait till you experience fuel gelling.
