Loose nut behind the wheel!

That's what I normally say when someone asks what is wrong with one of my cars.

"Nothings wrong with the "car" it's the "loose nut" behind the wheel" (me!):pp

Anyhow...on to a more serious subject I could definitely use some suggestions or tips on.

The 64 4 speed Wildcat I just bought has had the steering column threads beat to a unusable mess.

Instead of backing the steering wheel nut flush with the end of the threads, and beating, they just beat the snot out of it till the threads where ruined for the first 1/2" and even leaned the shaft over a little.

I figured this out fortunately before I drove the car, as the aftermarket wheel had all it's trim caps on, and when I pulled back on the steering wheel it came off in my hand.No nut what so ever on it.

That would have been nice to happen about 65mph:shock:

Anyhow I am debating whether to cut the steering shaft down to good threads (high speed dremel with a cut off wheel maybe) as I have plenty left over when using my GS rallye steering wheel on the car, or should I go to the trouble of locating and installing a whole new column:Dou: ?

Car doesn't have tilt or anything, and I'm wondering what years will interchange if I decide to go that route.

I still can't believe I was told the car runs and drives good, thank God the brakes were gone when it got here or I definitely would have been out power shifting away till the wheel pulled off.

This is the second time I've bought a car like this that someone pulled that stunt.I'll never get another car I don't check this first.
