    Thanks jakeshoe!

My tranny might not even be so bad as I thought. I changed the oil and filter the other day and drove it again yesterday. It performed nicely. But at speeds above 50 the rpm's are maybe a bit high. I don't know fore sure because I don't have a tach, it just sounds that way. I can feel the transmission shift at about 25 mph. This is the first and only moment when I really feel the tranny shift. Would this be the 1-2 shift or the 2-3 shift? I'd like to know for sure because a few weeks ago I was thinking it doesn't even make the 2-3 shift.

    Freebird,
If you accelerate lightly from a dead stop, you should feel the 1-2 shift and then the 2-3 shift. They should be very obvious. You should be able to tell us whether it is shifting twice or not. The more throttle you give it, the higher the shift points (in MPH) will be in a properly functioning transmission. The lightest possible throttle should result a shift from 1-2 at 9-12 MPH, and 2-3 at about 20 MPH. Part throttle shift will be much higher, but it will be very easy to feel when it shifts or it doesn't. It sounds to me like it isn't shifting 2-3. Try this. Accelerate the car to about 40 MPH, then move the gearshift from D to 2, and then back to D. Do you feel a shift then?
