Took the car out for a ride and for the first time since getting it, I had the opportunity to really step on it. From a roll it did well, the 1-2 shift was good. Power still climbed. The 2-3 shift was where things fell flat. After shifting the engine lost power, rpms fell. I eased off and at about 2k rpm the power came back. Ran well. Tried it again the exact same thing happened. Wondering what is wrong. Thinking fuel but wouldn't that occur at higher rpms and not after the shift? It's a 350 2bl. I was really surprised at the 1-2 shift. Solid and the car kept pulling!

Maybe tired valve springs? If you want to step on it do yourself a favor and put a 4 barrel intake and carb on it.Bruno.

Those are definitely on my to do list. Car has 57k miles so probably not valve springs? It falls flat right after 2-3 shift under heavy throttle. Light throttle it is fine.

I would check fuel pressure. It sounds.like when it starts to fall flat and you ease off throttle it recovers. If so that's an easy check.

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

    Yep.
Dirty pickup sock and/or filter, old rubber fuel line swollen and restricted like clogged arteries.

Fuel Pressure, you need to check it. There is no way around this. You can rig up a fuel pressure gauge that tees into your fuel line. It's temporary so you can use rubber line, and tape the gauge to the windshield.

Could be any of the things mentioned, or a tired fuel pump even.

When you tax the engine to it's maximum, the weak link reveals itself.

Update: Replaced all the fuel and evap lines and now the car runs like a champ. No more gas smell. The line up into the fuel pump was all cracked.
