Painted the GS its original, color code 75 red. This car was saved from being crushed in 1996. single stage acrilic enemal. cost $280 in materials, I spent an extra $80 to have the code 75 mixed rather than just picking a red from the paint chart.[IMG]

Thanks Mike, I am happy with my 1st paint job, it came out real nice. I know you are interested in rebuilding your front end, I rebuilt mine with guidence from a vhs tape "how to rebuild your front end" You are welcome to borrow it. Also I know of a 70 skylark in our neighborhood being parted out, if you need anything.

Looks really nice!:TU: OK, so I have a car that I need to paint, I've painted frames and such and they turned out nice, however now I'm at a loss at how to attack the whole car?

So, I'm thinking this?? Please correct me??

Car has been DA with 80 grit to get rid of a very bad paint job and it's now down to a solid base.

    Shoot it with epoxy primer

Do the body work, just a few dings, dents, no rust repair

    Shoot a high build primer

    Sand with ??

    Paint

    Clear

Most of my questions come from what grit paper at the different stages?? I don't want to oversand.

    Any help would be great!

    Rich

Hi Rich, I went around the car 1 section at a time. Sanding with 80 - 220 grit paper. Etching primer was used where I hit metal to assure good adheasion. I used high build laquer type primer next , sanding filling dings and scratches, sanding. block sanding, and more sanding, then a coat of primer- sealer (white) I wanted to have all sanding done before the sealer but I still found issues. I sanded the sealer smooth to get rid of spray gun spits. I loved the paint, a single stage ( no clear) acrilic enemal kit from the Restoration shop. Car lookd great but I then sanded the new paint after a few days with 1,000-1,500 grit to remove the orange peel and get the mirror finish. The $20 harbor freight gravity feed spray gun worked great for me. Tim I learned to upload pictures fast fo you. Your replys are funny!
