Can you use different main caps than what were on the block. Using 71 455 block and main caps from a different 71 455 and the cc on 71 stock heads thanks mike
I would think that you can swap main caps from another motor. I have several blocks in the garage and THINK that I have the correct mains with the correct blocks. I'd definately get the block line honed when you get the machine work done. The heads had 71cc's.
Crash Go back and edit your profile. Add your name to your signature at the bottom. It automatically let's everybody know who we're talking to everytime you post. I'd put a thread in the "parts wanted" column. I'm sure that there's plenty of guys with ruined blocks around that can part with main caps.
Very hit or miss on getting caps from another block to fit on your current block. Last one I had to replace the caps on, I litterally went thru half a dozen, and none were close enought to have the block Line Bored. We finally upgraded to the Billet caps. They have to be "fit" to the block, both in sizing, and position in the saddles. Good luck, I have done this in the past, but not too often could we make it work.. JW
well thanks for thr feedback sounds like i would be better off trying to find a complete block and go from there the only bad thing about that is the only ones i have found are back east and shipping is more then there are wroth thanks agin mike
I have a 74 455 (I think it's a 74 could be a 75 or 76). It has some core shift in the lifter valley. It's still standard bore and would easly clean up at .030. If you would like the block (caps included) I'll sell it to you for 75.00 bucks. If you wanted to pay a bit for me to meet you 1/2 way or so to elko, that could be aranged too.
