Hello I have a 1969 buick riv with the 430 It has an offenhouser intake and an edelbrock carb either 750 or 800. I think the engine was rebuilt with a little mild (very mild) cam and possibly bored over. I was rebuilt about 40k ago. I also have TA shorty headers and 3" meanstreak exhaust that end halfway down the car if that. The car is very loud and I think pretty fast. It is a gs with posi. Anyways I have a mallory dual point distributor I got from a freind for real cheap a ways back and I am planning on installing it. It has the mechanical advance. HAs anyone heard anything about these good/bad? any help is greatly appreciated thanks,

Remove one set of points, and you will then have just a mediocre setup, not an impossible one.

Two sets of points means twice as much to go wrong.

Yeah, they were the hot ticket in 1964. Not anymore.

Go electronic! An HEI will work fine once the advance has been tuned.

Okay those are very good points you have I did not know they were that old But my origial distributor is starting to wiggle a little and I am going to put this one in until I get some more $$$ scraped up. Seeing as I have this one right now for no extra charge.

thank you very much I am now seriously considering the HEI conversion.

Best thing I ever did for my ski boat was take out the Mallory and drop it over the side. Put in a stock Prestolite marine distributor and have had no problems for years. One of these days I will see if it can be converted to HEI.

The only reason I bought it was because TA performance has it on there site aparrently stating its a nice piece but I go with your guyz opinion.
