    Heah Marco,

You will find the pipes fit well. The only thing you will need to do is cut the tails to lenght and add a tip...... Or instead of a tip, you could have a muff shop bend them down at the tip and then cut them to lenght.......... Other than that, they should be good to go.

This is kind of off topic, but I hear everyone refer to "exhaust shop" bent pipes... but my exhaust shop mandrel bends... :Do No:

I'd think that the Mandrel bent pipes would look better... but I dont know whether they'd prove to have any horsepower impact or not

 There are three prices you pay.

    1. The actual price you paid.
    2. The price you told her you paid.
    3. The price you pay when she finds out what you paid.

Or, go by the 48hr. rule.
If she doesn't notice inside of 48hrs., She can't say anything. :Brow:

So what do you do when its $15000.00 and now the car is 1.5 seconds faster and she suspects but its been over 2 years now and she dont know what happened exactly but she knows something happened.......

Marco, I know the TT tail pipes aren't cheap but I think they look pretty mean peeking out from under the bumper.

Hopefully, the Flowmaster pipes can be bent to the contour of the tailpipes currently on my GS.

If not, they are going back. :spank:

Does anyone know if the muffler shops make the 'final bend' with the tailpipes already mounted?

They should be able to "slip fit" them in place, mark them, and then remove them and make the final bend/cuts with no problems.

    Thanks Phil!

I need to check if Rob can do this, otherwise I'll have to go to a muffler shop for the tailpipes :Dou:

Depending on what the muffler shop charges, I hope this $100 savings is worth it...

Mine look very similar to that. I do believe that mine have a slight angle to the cut, though.

How about a pair of these tips from Dynomax, for $16.99 each. They are 7'' long.

Would it make my exhaust system look 'pieced together'?

    How did you make out?

    Marco-

Just curious if you pieced together your system. I had been following this thread as you are/were heading down the same path I want to follow.

If you have collected the various components, how did they fit together? Was a lot of fabbing/cutting/welding involved to get it all to work together? Are you happy with the sound/performance?

I was also wondering if you wouldn't mind listing part numbers, prices, and sources for the various components. I'm hoping I can piggyback my system off your success! :TU:

    Thanks!

    Ken -

I'd be happy to let everyone know exactly what I did and all costs involved. To complement the exhaust system, I had John Osborne 'perform his magic' on a 1971 800 cfm carburetor and bought a used set of Greg Gessler's ported exhaust manifolds. Rob Chilenski of Stage1 Automotive in Pompton Plains NJ is (hopefully) putting everything on later this week. My carburetor is supposed to come today and I hope it's not delayed.

Here's the route I'm going on my 2.5'' exhaust -
    - Down pipes from Torque Tech
    - X-Pipe from X-force technologies (Nick F.)
    - Walker 17749 Dynomax mufflers
    - Tailpipes from Torque Tech

There was a mix-up and Rob ordered the $200 tailpipes from TT. I returned the ones from Summit (along with the tailpipe extensions above). It's much more than I wanted to spend, but he says they fit GREAT and I will not be disappointed.

Once I see all the invoices, I'll post all the prices of all the components, including Rob's labor. I'll even include the return fees Summit will charge me to return the tailpipes/extensions. After reviewing our budget (and lots of begging/pleading), my wife originally okayed a new exhaust, for about $600. Between the carb/manifolds, my original estimate is easily doubled :Dou: Thank God she is very understanding :Brow:

PS - Hope you get to hear it for yourself in 3 1/2 weeks :TU:

Thanks Marco, I'll be spending some time on the internet this afternoon looking up those items so I can get them on order! :TU:

Why did you choose the x-force pipes over Dr. Gas?? And did you go with the 3" x 2 1/2" or the 2 1/2" x 2 1/2"?? Also, if there wasn't a mix-up on the TT tailpipes, do you think you would've kept the Summit ones? Did the quality look ok??

Hey, I'm asking a lot of questions, but like I said earlier I want to use your successes to get my system going quick. I don't know how realistic it is, but I still have a goal to be at Holmdel on the 7th with my car.

I appreciate your input! :) I hope your carb makes it to your door today.

    Re: Thanks

    Hi Ken -

We all help each other in sharing information - no bother :TU:

The X-Force design looks better to me, from a 'flowing' perspective. I'm not an engineer or anything, I just think it may perform better because the 'X' junction is wider. I went the 2.5'' x 2.5'' route. I spoke with many people, including Greg Gessler, Rob Chilenski, and Charlie Evans. With my 'relatively stock' application, the consensus is the 3'' x 2.5'' really wouldn't make that much of a difference, except maybe at the racetrack by a couple thousandths. I rarely race my GS. Greg uses a 2.5'' X system on his GS and it's plenty to run mid-high 11s through his manifolds. I will not even be close to that type of performance.

I want to do things once, and do them right. I may not have this oppurtunity again :(

I had the Summit pipes shipped directly to Rob, so I didn't see them. Rob returned them in the mail yesterday.

PM me with your phone # - I'll give you a call to discuss this further.

    x- pipes

    Marco

Could you please tell me how you found those two
X-pipes? Are they pictured on-line? How much where they?
    Just for the X-pipe
I will be upgrading my exhaust from the h-pipe to the
x-pipe. I might just buy one, Instead of building one.
    Thanks
