Manual Trishield Outside Mirror Glass Removal

Discussion in 'Wrenchin' Secrets' started by stagedgs, Mar 2, 2022.

I recently purchased an outside manual mirror (1371743) on evilBay that needs some love. I need to remove the glass so that I may separate the mirror pieces (upper mounting bracket from upper mirror 'head'), but what is the best way to remove the glass? Will heat application soften the adhesive and allow me to remove the glass? Or just suck it up, be careful, and take the glass out in pieces? I have searched this board and haven't found anything that would help me.
I don't have any aspirations of reusing the factory glass, I'm just hoping to minimize the pain of the glass removal.

    Thanks,

Just went through this, although my mirror metal was rechromed. I have heard heat to soften the adhesive. I have heard more that have just "smashed" the mirror glass. There are NOS mirror glass pieces out there, and The Parts Place sells a pre cut piece of mirror.. However, The Parts Place mirror is poorly cut.

Once the glass is OUT, perform this technique:

Did the same on my mirror, very tight....

Thanks. After removing the old glass, what is the best adhesive to use to reinstall the glass?

I was planning on buying the new mirror glass from OPGI, hopefully the quality is better.

    Thanks again,
