I'm thinking about ordering a fiberglass hood from VFN and a Stage 2 scoop for -70 skylark. How far from the rear edge of the hood should the scoop be installed? I browsed old threads where one said 10 5/8 for -69 hood and another thread said 12" for -70 hood. Is that correct?
I'm interested also, but one for the Poston supplied units. For reference the carb location is for a T/A Sp intake. Several different measurements on the search. Which is right. Tom
Does VFN have the measurements if I'll ask them to install the scoop? Also does the VFN flat hood have the GS(?) style small lip? I have the chrome trim from a "big lip" skylark hood somewhere around here. Will that fit on a small lip hood?
Welp, if it helps, the factory position on a '70 Skylark hood is exactly like this; Measurement from rear of hood scoop to rear edge of hood is 12 inches. With scoop off, measurement from edge of hole in hood to rear edge of hood is 14 inches. With an old style B4B Edelbrock intake (factory stg2) the carb seems to be pretty much centered... Here's some pics from a somewhat far away distance to give you an idea of how the factory did it. Although i don't know if the VFN hood is any different...it shouldn't beo No:
If it's no problem that be great. Quite a difference though, 9" vs. 12" of factory stage 2 hood. Are the scoops different or does the intake make the difference :/ Not a problem if I install the scoop myself but it would suck if I ask VFN to do the install and find out that the scoop is bit off.
I thought someone posted here a while ago that they had VFN mold the scoop and the hood together, or at leat had them mount it. Michael
Hi Chris, Thanks for the props Chris and everyone! And thanks Chris for the KB pan...it' one more step to making it authentic:TU: Sure, I'll take some pics of the underside with the original Buick air/pan. I suppose the air/pan could hold a open elemnt air cleaner but it wouldn't stick up into the scoop. The Buick engineers cut the hole in the hood without cutting into the hood frame...Tom Rix's other Buick made Stg2 hood was done the exact same way. I'll get the pictures together:TU: ps. Chris, is it possible to get some copies of your pics of the car? even just a picture of the picture?
Naw, I already have a NOS K/B fiberglass one that he sold using this one for the mold, otherwise maybe............................NOT:laugh:
Hope not to hijack jonsta, but this might help if putting a scoop on a stock hood. Here you go Chris...now show me yours:bla: The hole in the hood... The underside of hood. There is a "plate" that mounts to the underside frame work to seal the hood to the foam...I don't have it installed here, it's being touched up. Looks somewhat like the poncho's 1960's lightwheight's. The one of two GM's air pan...this one has never been restored, it's very original.
