...just making SUVs (Stupid Useless Vehicles) made in China....put Buick out of it's coma before it gets worse. Sounds sexist but women are probably running it (they all love their little SUVs)...no passion for real cars. Sorry...had to vent....
X3 Women may not be running Buick motor division but there is no thought into there designs There all clones of each other just a little bigger than the other. Top out at 50k plus.
"50k" I wish I could get off that easy. These things my wife is wrecking Whole Foods parking lot with start at 50 and go way beyond, lol.
Actually I noticed recently that the Buick "encore" might be called an SUV, but they are not fooling anyone, it's a little hatchback car. I see this comment was edited due to a mildly offensive comment quoted from a movie (Platoon, Apocalypse now?). My point was, this is in fact what consumers are looking for (SUVs). It's not a Buick thing, it's an auto industry thing. This too shall pass and someday in the future cars as we know and love them will come back into style.
I actually commend Buick for their survival instinct. Buick is extremely popular in China for whatever reason. So, let them export. More money in it anyway. Olds, dead Pontiac, dead Saturn, dead Saab, dead Hummer, dead Buick? Still chugging along fine, just not in the US market. Bet you didn't know that pretty much every movie and tv show made in the US barely makes anything here. All the money is in foreign markets. Can't blame Buick for following the money. They'd probably be dead too if they had tried to "reinvent" the brand for Americans and compete with the Japanese. With no trucks that would have been certain death.
You guys need to get a grip. The only reason Buick is still alive is because of the Chinese. It sucks but it's true. If not for them Buick would have been killed before Pontiac.
And that brand popularity helps values. Seemed like our numbers were up at Mecum... There can't be many new Pontiac or Olds teenage drivers out there. Like trying to sell a Desoto....
After Buick dropped sedans, I decided I'd never buy another new one. That actions speaks loudest, the loss of a customer. However, for everyone they lose here, there are 200 gained in China. They decided long ago they don't need my money.
I agree with you very logical point..... Mine is,,,,,, only reason the are still alive is for the fact the buick company made the General Motors holding company way back in history.... Also Chevrolet was a employee of Durant and Durant made a new line and named it other chevy.. Chevy has been carrying GM for years. but GM won't kill it father car company...
Gm was founded with the finances of Buick ! Louis, Gaston and Auther Chevrolet were on Buick’s racing team and drove and worked on the cars! In the early years! Walter P Chrysler and Charles Nash both worked for Buick before going on two start their own automobile companies ! The sales of Buick’s in China did help save and influence the Buick Division! You could say that Buick is building trucks again! Wonder what David Dunbar would think!?
I have a business contact in China (EBay stuff) and they love Buick. Last I spoke with her she said Honda / Toyota are low class cars there and when I mentioned I drive a Buick she said I must be rich. But from other convo's we've had, in comparison I think the majority of us are.
What the multinational corporate conglomerate that GM is, decides to do with their subsidiaries, interests me not in the least. The GM divisions died many decades ago, once GM bought into the "Corporate engine". All the distinctions that made any difference were gone. Anyone in their 50's will recall the Chevy Chevettes that said "Chevette" on one side, and T-1000 on the other. Rumor has it that the line workers did this, to protest against the new corporate philosophy at GM. It was a joke to build two different cars, exactly the same with just different badges. GM still does this with trucks, there is no particular reason for GMC to exist.. other than to get folks to pay too much for a Chevy with more fluff. As far as I am concerned, Buick could have been put out it's misery in 1977.. Never cared about the GN, because GM was making horrible cars in the 80's, and that G body is no exception. First thing I do when I build a drag car out of one, is rip out that horrible dashboard.. The only reason that body style is interesting at all, is because of the amount of aftermarket fiberglass available for it. I was not awed by the GN/Turbo Regals, because I am a v-8 guy.... ya, they were fast, but so was my motorcycle. I though of them as in a similar category.. nothing at all like a rumbling big block. I think the Olds and Pontiac guys have it good, they no longer have to watch their beloved company name be plastered onto cookie cutter econboxes and silly soccer mom mini Suvs. Joe is right, GM is building what people want.. and that is the issue we really need to worry about.. gone are the days of the educated consumer, replaced by mind numbed robots that all want to drive the same thing, while looking at the internet on their cel phone. JW
Obviously. I'm sitting in a commuter lot right now. There are 21 cars. One is a pick up, there are two cars and the rest are the crossover/ hatchback mini suvs.. all of these vehicles are less than 5 years old..
