    I've been playing around with my old stuff while I have my engine disassembled. I am learning a little about the proper way to degree a cam. If I'm doing things correctly, my old set up is .5- 1.5' within the centerline on the cam card (I attribute the differant readings I get to my inexperience and used parts).

    MY question is do I leave it at the centerline on the card or am I supposed to do something else. Card is attached below and yes I know the cam is "old school" but so am I:grin: .

    Duane, if you are coming up with right around 112 to 114 on the intake center line and your opening and closing points are where the card says, then you are fine.

    Thanks, Jim:TU:

    Now, second question;

    I borrowed a tool that checks valve spring height, but what is the best method to check the height from the spring base to the valve tip?

    You can ball park it with a vernier caliper, you'll have to angle it slightly to go from the valve tip to the spring pad.
    Or use a straight edge across the valves and measure to the pad, just subtract the thickness of your straightedge. Jim Burek
