I have a chance to buy a used set of TA chrome 1 7/8" 455 headers for a good price but I don't know if I should. Does anyone have any input on these. I know that the ceramic coated are the best but there's the price thing.

    1. Do these headers fit all years? Mine is a '66 'lark.
    2. What's up with the chrome? Will it easily rust? What about the heat issue?
    3. It's a 9.5:1 .30 over motor w/stage 1 heads and a poston intake. Not sure of the cam yet but I will be running power brakes. Will these headers work well with this combo?
    4. Finally, how's the ground clearance?

    Thanks for any info!

I don't think those will fit the 66 chassis without some modifications, especially on the driver's side for the steering column. Not a major deal, should just need some slight dinging.
The chrome is better than no paint, but it will discolor almost instantly. In my opinion, chrome is probably the worst thing you can put on a header, don't even think of getting near those puppies when the engine is running or just been run. Jim burek

Thanks Jim. I wasn't really crazy about the chrome but like I said, the price was good. Does anyone make a header specifically for the '66? Both Poston and TA list theirs as fitting '64 and up.

Mike, I say go for it! I got the same ones on my 70, and yeah they discolored a little bit after a while, but they look SO MUCH better than painted!! Ceramic is cool and worth it I guess, but man thats alot of money:eek2: If you're talking about the ones for sale here on the board, that's a better price than from TA:spank: :spank:

The 64 to 67 chassis is the same. The only difference is that is 67, gm started using the collapsible steering column. Jim Burek

    Jeff,

Actually, these were local but I looked up the ones on the board and they're an even better deal. Of coarse my wife's car broke down yesterday and since we both work I had to have it taken to a shop:gt: Guess how much it cost to fix it? If you guessed the price of the headers you win. I guess I should still buy them though as it will save me money later.

Gotta agree with Jeff here. Sure chrome discolors a little bit, but still looks way better than flaky paint. After 8 years on my car the T/A product is still very presentable. They look cool underneath when viewed from the side. I can see that shiny chrome collector in just about all side-on photos. I climb under there once a year and give em the steel wool treatment. Best part about headers: running your open-header ride down to the muffler shop on a Saturday morning at about 7:00 a.m. Be sure to roll by your neighborhood rice-boy's house. :Brow:
