Hi all, My dad needs some more prayers please.... He'll be having surgery tomorrow. He is having a catheter placed into his abdominal cavity (peritoneal cavity) for this dialysis machine that we can bring home & hook dad up to at night, so that he can have the dialysis done while sleeping, it's called CCPD (continuous cycling paritoneal dialysis). The incison takes about 2-3 weeks to heal completely, and they will be training dad & mom on the machine, my brother & I will also learn the basics. After he is healed and is trained, he and the machine will be allowed to come home - about a month (happy happy joy joy  ). The shunt in his arm now will remain there in case something goes wrong. The main thing the doctors are worried about is the chance of peritonitis..... if dad happens to get it...in his weak state.... he could.....well I don't want to go there :ball: They are also not sure how much longer he has... :ball: :ball: so with this machine he can be home with the family where he should be, wants to be & where he will be the happiest. As most of you know he's been in the nursing home since he fell back in May, he was getting better, walking, doing rehad, but took a turn for the worst when he fell again and messed up his shoulder. The nursing home sucks big time.... only giving him a 900 calorie diet, he can't go outside (they have called him litter while waiting outside for my mom :af: ) there are no activites for him to get involved in, so with all of that...... My dad is not the same man he was when he went in, which I'm having a hard time with..... he didn't know who I was when I first walked in to see him the other day. took him about 5mins to figure it out. So if y'all wonderful folks could add dad to your prayer list I would be greatful. Thanks, Beth P.S. I have been informed NOT to change our plans for Salem. Dad told mom....."you tell that daughter of ours to go have fun & race"
Really sorry to hear that, Beth. I know what it's like to see the man you always thought of as the toughest guy in the world when you were a kid get weak. It sucks, plain and simple. Prayers heading your way...
You know your dad is in our prayers and thoughts, as well as your mom and the rest of yous guys. You all are going to need strength and faith to get through all of this. And you know you can call for anything, anytime..... Shari (and Loyd)
a bit of an update... Just a quick update... I'm to lazy to edit my post LOL Dad's surgery is have moved to Thursday...... Now for a bit of good news.... Since the surgery is not until Thursday & he was already signed out of the nursing home..... guess where he is......... That's right he's HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I watched him make a big ol' turkey sandwich after we got him in the house & settled. He had the biggest grin on his face and just kept saying how wonderful it was to be home. He'll be home until Thursday after dialysis, then I guess they will take him for the surgery.... not sure. Thanks all, Beth
Beth, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope for the best for you and yours. Johnno.
Hey All, Dad had his surgery on Thursday everything went well with 1 minor thing, where the tube for the new dialysis machine is, is right where his belt buckel sits, so I guess he'll have to switch to suspenders. He's home resting, he's very weak. He has to sleep sitting up because he has a hard time breathing when he lays down. They are waiting the full 2 weeks for him to heal before they start his training, the doctors are very worried about his chance of infection. His spirits are up, but not as much as I had hoped for... I know he's getting tired... Beth
You always have prayers from Loyd and I - even without asking. The same with anything else you need. Keeping him in our thoughts, too..... Shari
Beth, know that my prayers have been doubled. Don't forget to take care of yourself and your Mom, too. You guys need strength as well!!
