I finally swapped the junk-box Ebelbrock 800 of the 430 in favor of the freshly restored original q-jet. I'm rewared with 16 mpg, better all around performance, and it runs hot. when the edlebrock was on, it never, not even for a second got over 160. I rarely used the electric fans at all. I could sit at a light and the temp would climb to 185 or so, but now it skyrockets if I leave the fans on. it acts sorta weird too. 25-45 MPH it runs at 165-70. 50-65 it runs at a cod 160. 60-80 it's back around 170. at a light it climbs to 185. this may not seem like a big deal now, but come next summer when its 85, as opposed to the bitchin' 45 it is now I'm gonna be screwed. What the hell is causing this??? thanks

I played with the mixture screws to no end. It pull way to hard to e starved of gas. It's much faster now then with the edelbrock. the plugs do not indicate a lean condition either. I will try some more though. by the way, the carb is built to stage 1 specs.

I'd say the most likely scenario is that you've reattached your vacuum advance wrong. Retarded ignition timing is a common cause of extra heat.
