My distributor is stuck!

And I mean stuck good. It's a GM HEI distributor, and it will not turn except if I put a 1 inch wrench on the nut underneath the base, and then it only turns a little. It wont lift out either.

The car runs fine and the initial timing is set to 10*, but I want to change it back to points. Any idea how to get the darn thing out without messing up the timing cover?

    It's a 68 430.

    TIA

Put some Mouse Milk around the base and let it work over night.

How do I catch the little critters, and how can I tell if one is lactating?

I used PB Blaster, and it was no help. WD-40 too.

    :Do No: :Do No:

It's almost like it's a mechanical problem, but I don't see how it could be, since the car runs fine.

    how about

Try pouring a bit of Coke (the cola) on it... Give it a drink every hour or so around the base and see if that helps..

As I see it, the guy said Mouse Milk. What is with allof the substitutes? Are lactating mice that difficult to find? Ray

I had the same problem with a 1968 Cadillac Deville. I tried everything. The way it came out was I attached a come- along to a tree. I put a rope around the shaft and tapped back and forth as I increased the pulling pressure. It came out but keep out of its way. I told my buddys that helped me I was a shade tree mechanic. They called me something I can not print here. All I can say is it worked. I would use a engine pulled now to regulate the pressure better.
I hope you do not have to resort to it though.

I was talking to a friend just today about this and I said I might have to resort to using my engine hoist. What a pain if I have to take off the hood! I prolly won't though.

I put two criss-crossed crowbars underneath the distributor, and with the hood off, stood on the fenders and yanked. As soon as the distributor body was broken in two, I was able to fish out most of the other pieces and parts.

    I got it out!

It took the engine hoist, 2 strong screwdrivers (I don't start on beer til 1200 :beer ) :spank:  and a 16 ounce hammer. It was stuck good!

    It was electrolitically stuck crazy.

It is now broken. It was the hammer's fault. Anyone need a working vacuum advance, module, cap, coil, or shaft? Maybe a gear if my donated stock distributor has the right one as well.

Would the O ring be where the dist. meets the TC or internal?
