Hi everyone. I got my car back a few days ago and today I put the stainless on the drip rails and the trim at the rear of the vinyl top. Needless to say, I am tickled pink. And the wife is so pleased that the "LID" is finally done. I figured I post a pic now of it closed and will attach another tomorrow of it opened. Sorry it seems like I am bragging, but I am happy and proud... Mike
Mike your not bragging ! Your one Proud Buick owner with that "warm and fuzzy " feeling !!:Brow: Looks Sweet and clean..........:beer :TU:
After whipping that SunCoupe into such fantastic shape you have every right to be proud and show it off and toot her horn a bit. I've always had a sweet spot for the SunCoupes - such a unique thing for GM and Buick, of all marques !, to do :TU:
Thanks everyone for the inputs. It sure is awesome to ride in her with the top is open. If you have never rode in a Suncoupe, you need to do yourself a favor and do so. Then our cars will be worth sooo much more becouse everyone would want one, LOL. It really is an awesome feeling with the sky open to you, and no wind blowing your hair all around. I know that there are some that do not worry about the hair thing, but for a good old fashion mullet head like myself, it matters. I will get a few pics of the top open tomorrow, inside and out. Thanks again all. I really hope to make it to an east coast event next time Marco. I appreciate all that goes on here at V8. This is definately a classy group of well deserving Buick owners and enthusiasts. And actually, the wife and I have been talking about trying to make it out to BG next year. The big question is if we will be able to keep enough interesting things going for our 6 and 9 year olds. Mike
brag on MIke very nice love those sncps more picture's please ya know...open...closed...open... closed D.:TU:
Wow Mike, that car is too pretty. It would be pretty hard NOT to brag about that car! Beautiful....:TU:
:beer very very sharp. your right mike, its a great feeling to cruise around with the top open. its the best of both worlds (convert and hardtop). as a side note, i have seen a nova with a almost identical top as the suncoupe. i think it had an emblem that read sky coupe or something of that nature. been a few years ago at a local show in wahoo,ne. never could find the owner of the car. brad.
O.K. Mike. Did a fine job on that suncoupe. Timeframe was pretty short too. Isn't it a great feeling when you step back and finally can say "It's Done!" :TU: Now get her out for some exposure before the winter lockdown. Let some of the "old pros" get a look at her so they can offer any "tweaking" advice.:Smarty: One more thing Mike. I wouldn't mention anything about building the Race car to "momma" until after Christmas. :spank:
I wanted to get some pics of thew top open out... Thanks again to all here. This board is definately an awesome asset to my Buick endevors. Here is what it is like with the top open from the back seat for those not yet priviledged to be in a Suncoupe... Mike
Great looking Suncoupe Mike, Mine is due for a top at the moment. What material did you use? I have been trying to fimd the correct grain convertible top material in white but haven't had much luck. For the time being I recovered it in white canvas top material to make it through the winter, but I want to do it right before the spring. Anyway good to see one of these fun cars being put back into shape. Good job!!! Doug
Doug, I do not believe it is convertible top material, but vinyl. I used a standard non-backed vinyl. As for correct grain, I am sure it is not but it looks good. I do not know if you could get the correct grain vinyl anymore. But you can get the tops still for hardtops. But you know they have 2 seams in them and the Suncoupe has no seams amongst the top. Maybe you could find the company that supplies the material to the makers of the hard top vinyl kits and buy pieces outright. I know you do not want the fuzzy backed vinyl. Keep in touch and send some pics of your Suncoupe. I would love to see it. Are you going to do the top yourself? I went to 4 or 5 upholstry places and they did not want to mess with it. Ended up being a designer that did mine, and had done another guys a few years ago. Mike
Mike, I do plan on doing my top myself this time, will be the 4th top on the car since new. The last one I had put on, when I was 17, the shop used standard vinyl top material with the backing, the material didn't hold up well but the worse was they used hardware store uncoated cable and it snapped, once the tension was gone the top just fell apart, but it took it 10 years of daily driving to go completely. I have parts of 2 spare frames I have collected over the years and a good sample of the original material, So I will try and find something close. My car had seams just like a hardtop when I bought it. I'm the 2nd owner, had 52,000 miles on it when I got it. But I was told the top had been redone once when I picked it up. I think these were totally hand done the frame on my car, and the parts of the spares, nothing is exactly the same, different overall widths on the aluminum headers and different hole spacings on the rear aluminum parts, so I guess each top will have to be custom made. Sure would be nice if we could order a premade top from Key or some other convertible supplier. I'll keep in touch and get some pics sooner or later. Doug
You know Jeff, I have heard a lot of excellent word about the BPG meets and against BG. That may be exactly what we may do. Especially having family in OH, we could leave the kids for a few days. Where in OH is it at? Wasn't the nationals near Columbus a few years ago? I was wondering if it was there. Family is in Huber Heights, about 50 miles due west of Columbus. Thanks for the info and suggestion, Mike
Mike, great looking car! the 1st annual BPG event will be in salem Ohio. wich is just south west of Youngstown, there will be plenty of hotels and eateries arond for all. please consider coming down and joining a great time with some great folks. Bruce BPG event August 12-15th 2004
