There are a pair of seat belts missing in my GSX. There are supposed to be 4 belts in between the buckets- 2 for the lap belts and 2 for the shoulder belts. But my car is missing 2!

So I'm looking for a pair of black belts. I know it's a needle in a haystack, but preferably dated 3/70....but as Brett says, im not gonna stand in a bread line and ask for toast :)

    Here's a pic or two..

I discovered that all the female belts and all the male belts are the same / same length as one another - front and back if this helps. Same goes for bucket / bench on the lengths. The rear center belt (s) are different from the others. It may be that just the rear center male belt is shorter. I have some belts here. I'll take a look at the dates.

    Jason,
You could have standard or deluxe belts.

You need to take a picture of what the female receiver looks like if you want the correct parts.

Jason . I know I have Black Belts with a 70 date but they are at my other garage and I won't be there for a couple of weeks . The only difference in belts I have noticed is the length and the locking slot . One has a small square hole and the other is rectangle hole for the locking latch of the female end .

I can tell you that both the lap belts and the shoulder belts have the same size male receiver.

    Ttt...

Still looking for a pair of black lap belts with the black camera case buckles. "General Safety" manufactured belts would be a plus!

Wasn't aware of that. Assuming you're correct that makes it a lot easier.

I have a bunch but my one '70 car also needs a pair in the center and I need a full set for the other '70 car (both standard/camera case) so it'll take me a bit to sort it all out but if no one else comes through...

Did your car originally have the shoulder belts? One of my 70’s never had them, which I thought highway all did by 1970,but apparently not. I have since found others that did not.

I'll have to look - I assumed they all had them. It wasn't an option.

    Per the interweb:)

Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 mandated front outboard shoulder belts on all cars made starting Jan 1, 1968. Convertibles were excepted. Prior to that, shoulder belts WERE an available option.

I know it’s hard to tell with a car that has been tampered with, but an original with original headliner, and no holes for the bolts. Then removing the headliner and finding that there were never any bolts. Yes,I found it very odd myself and thought that everything had shoulder belts, but have since found a few other originals that did not either.

    Brian,
    Two things,
    1. Was your car originally sold thru a dealership in the US?, and
    2. Other countries had different safety regulations then the US.

My 69 Motion Equipped car was built in Canada and was exported to the US when it was first built. The car came with bucket seats and headrests. For 1969 Canada did not require headrests, but because it was going to the US the car had to have them; therefore they were installed and GM of Canada charged the dealership for their “according to them” added option. (If the car was built and sold in the US the headrests would not have been an option.)

Now I don’t know what the different Countries safety requirements were in 1970, but that may have had something to do with this.

Possibly Cole would know, he is from Canada.

My particular car was made at the Flint plant and shipped to a dealer in South Carolina. Could it have been intended for Canada export? Possibly. Anything was possible back then. The other cars that Inhave seen could have possibly been in Canada when new. They were all northern US cars as far as I know. Plenty of Canadian cars in our junkyards too.

Interesting, you would think it would have been illegal to sell within the USA without them since it was a Federal requirement since Jan 1968.

Yes. You would think. Was your interior apart before? Is that why two belts are missing?

For reason unknown, two front belts are missing. Im assuming when the carpet was replaced, the two belts never made it back on the car.

The rest of the belts are general safety brand. It would be awesome to find 2 black general safety belts regardless of the date codes. I'd probably just remove the tag.

My GS has the brushed silver buckles, and the buckles for the shoulder belts are bigger than the lap belts.

Are the belts date coded 70?
